A new leak that might relate to Silent Hill Posted: 16 Dec 2019 06:04 PM PST Before I say anything about the new info, in order to avoid the drama associated with the last leak, a few notes: 1) This is in no way guaranteed to be true. 2) Both the leaker and I agreed that it's best for them not to reveal their Reddit account, so that no one can even message them. If someone for whatever reason wants to contact them, the communication has to go through the mod team. This will greatly help avoid scenarios like the last leak. 3) When the leaker contacted me, I tried my best to get as much proof as possible. They have been very cooperative, and even revealed personal identifying information to prove their identity. Even though this in no way proves that the leak is true, they did way more than a troll would normally do. As for the leak, don't get super hyped. What we have is the following: Konami is working on a 3D (most probably first person) video game. From the very few info the leaker has shared (which I unfortunately can't share with you), it does have some resemblance to Silent Hill. The leaker's job placed them in a position to learn just this info. The undeniable proof they provided is that they do work where they claimed they do (they told me about their job before I asked for proof). Again, take it with a huge grain of salt. You are free to call bullshit, and no one can blame you. If I wanted to avoid all headache, I could've just ignored it, but I think you guys deserve to know. I'm trying my best to handle the situation as safely as possible, as I don't want to share too much information at the risk of ruining people's careers in case the leak is true, and at the same time, I want to share as much proved info as I can with you. If you have any suggestions on how to go forward with this, or any feedback about our way of handling the situation, please share. [link] [comments]

Did anyone else like Downpour? Posted: 16 Dec 2019 01:43 PM PST Hi, I apologize if this is redundant, I'm new here and this is my first post. I've played all of the Silent Hill games except SM and Silent Hill 0, with 1, 2, and 3 being my more favorite games in the series (along with just about everyone else haha). I also really enjoyed Silent Hill: Downpour and I wanted to find out if anyone else liked that game, too. I will fully admit it is nowhere close to being the best game in the series, but there were elements of the game I really enjoyed like the side quests and the more open-world feel of the game. Here's a cover of "Theme of Laura" I made Posted: 16 Dec 2019 07:09 PM PST Hi guys, it's my very first post on Reddit after being a silent watcher for too long! I wanted to share with you this cover I made of the famous Theme Of Laura from the genius Akira Yamaoka! I know it has been covered thousands of time, but you might like it :) Not perfect but this is the best I could end up with after long hours of working on it :) [link] [comments]
Silent Hill 3 key bindings/Widescreen fix Posted: 16 Dec 2019 05:49 PM PST Hi everyone, I just downloaded Silent Hill 3 PC version and I just have a few questions. Does anybody have a list of the key bindings for silent hill 3 on PC? I specifically looking for the key to toggle the flashlight on/off. I use two monitors. Is there away to stop the mouse from going off screen? When I move my mouse to the right to move Heather the cursor keeps going to the second monitor. How do you get the widescreen fix to work? When I try to drop the file where .exe file is, it gives me a message that I cannot add more files due to being over 3GB or something like that. I downloaded SH3 from myabandonware.com and the file shows as a F: drive on my file explorer. Also, does the fix support 2k res? Thanks for reading all this shit but any help would be appreciated by this great community of people. [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Dec 2019 08:04 PM PST Perhaps unimportant, but I found it interesting in what I researched about the name "Silent Hill". I'm unaware of what came first, the name "Team Silent" or the conception of the fictional town "Silent Hill". I've heard conflicting reports of this either being a fan name, or that this was the original code name used by Konami... but if it was already "team Silent" before the title was chosen, this may has significant impact on the title. Out of curiosity I decided to look up real life locations named "Silent Hill" as it's a fairly mundane name in itself... perhaps there was inspiration one of the writers took from it? I found a ton of cemeteries a few churches and even some proper places named Silent Hill, some of which can be seen at this GeoNames link Most inspiration for the series came from Western media... for instance Cheryl was named from "Sheryl Lee" an American film actress, who was on Twin Peaks, an inspiration for Team Silent. But names also came from real world events and people, like "Cybil Bennet" who's Last name came from a real life policewoman who was also a murderer and her first name came from "Sybil" Danning (or Buck). All this is to say that the naming conventions were mostly based on real people who influenced the project, so could it be possible the name also comes from a real world source of inspiration? I have no idea, but This has all lead me to think that the name of the cemeteries and the name of the Town are no accident. Possibly it was in a novel, movie or news article I've missed that they found. Possibly it came from their founding code name adapted to fit this cemetery theory? It really doesn't matter to be honest! But I find it interesting regardless, I want to know the truth! [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Dec 2019 10:48 AM PST But I've been here all along. Long time Silent Hill fan, playing since release of the first game on PS1. Still remember going through that dark alley and then waking up in our favorite town for the first time. SH2 was and still is my favorite, from both a nostalgia and story/ambiance perspective. That game got the tone and narrative perfect, and none of the elements of the game felt exploited. It all felt natural. SH3 was incredible. They did exploit the ideas of the previous games but in a tasteful way and made the game really enjoyable to play (if you're into getting scared out of your wits like I am). SH4 I initially was divided on. The combat felt a bit janky and I wasn't sure about the monster design. Later I reached a point where my brain decided it's a gem and they did something unique and amazing for the time. I still feel like it was an underrated masterpiece. Also hoping to discover a hole to another dimension in my own home. SH5 and beyond.....Dangit. That's where I felt like the games became purely exploitative of what made the originals good, but they did it in a bad way that felt cheap and like a cash grab. Although I do enjoy the movies to a certain extent, I think they enabled some of the exploitation. Yeah zombie nurses and pyramid head are cool, but that's not the focus of the story. The story is about despair and hopelessness, trying to escape from it all, and facing your own demons. Anyway, cheers to all and here's hope SH might be properly resurrected in the future, if even in spirit (a similar game with a different name, Kojima? ;) ) [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Dec 2019 08:55 AM PST Whenever I see posts about SH music (or music that reminds them of Silent Hill), typically people talk about the main themes or melodic musical numbers. That's all good, but for me, Silent Hill music is about creepy industrial sounds echoing from beyond, or strange ambient whines in the distance. So what's your favorite atmospheric track? Here's 2 of mine to get you started: Silent Hill 3 - As The Sun Drowns (timestamp) Silent Hill 4 - The Wretched 3 (timestamp) [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Dec 2019 06:00 AM PST I read an article recently analyzing Silent Hill 2 and heavily critiquing James as a character. It really makes him out to be some sort of mindless idiot. There are many things the article blatently misses or gets wrong, but it did leave me thinking about his morality quite a bit. I want to use this as an opportunity to discuss his character, and possibly answer a couple questions I personally have about his interactions with his wife. The review sarcastically called him the "hero" of the story on multiple occasions which made me cringe a little. I never really got the impression that he was a hero when the game was done, nor did I see the game justifying the murder. His morality was intentionally on the wrong side of things, all the while the game did well to make him relatable which is one of the things that gave the videotape twist some punch. On the other hand, aside from outright killing of his wife, I don't think the game ever references James being oppressive to Mary while she was ill did he? From what it seems, to me at least, he was quietly resentful and his emotions bottled up. Hence why the monsters reflect his repressed emotions and sexuality because he didn't express them outward. Was there any other reference to him being oppressive to Mary? While Mary was verbally abusive, I don't really remember the game getting in depth into the extent. Like how abusive and angry? I can understand the fact that her being on her death bed gave her anger and abuse the weight that it had, but I don't remember her being incredibly oppressive verbally either. I don't really see how they draw the line of abuse well other than in Mary's final letter. Even then, her saying she lashed out in anger and felt guilty about it isn't nearly as impactful as hearing it first hand. Are there any references or serious instances of her abuse? Lastly, I remember one of the TRSHE videos saying that the ending of the game was inspired by Japanese double suicides. I didn't want to quote it as fact because I can't remember nor find which one referenced it, but wanted to see if anyone here could confirm or deny that. Masahiro Ito did confirm that Mary was in the back seat of the car, which goes along with this, and many of the members of team silent see the "In water" ending as the preferred ending to the game. Again, I don't want to make serious claims without confirming them so this subreddit is a good place to talk about it. All in all, I don't see James as a good person. That was made obvious throughout the game that the article itself kind of mocks. I don't see him as inherently evil either. I really didn't see him even wanting to kill his wife, nor did he take any pleasure in it, but more-so falsely convinced himself that it was a necessity. What do you guys think about this? I find the article hard to read, but if you want it is here. It's very cringy to me and kind of sparked this whole deal. [link] [comments]

Ways to make Silent Hill 2 better Posted: 16 Dec 2019 12:16 AM PST 1) The pyramid head scene where he fucks those monsters to death should be changed to him making love to the monsters. It's not politically correct to rape anymore. 2) Fix the god awful controls! And fix the combat! When fighting a monster James should talk when you strike them. "TAKE THIS FOUL BEAST!" "THIS ONE'S REALLY GONNA HURT!" "GOTCHA NOW!" 3) James should be able to drive around the town in his car and be able to run over enemies. There's a gas station where he can refuel if needed. It'll make traveling a lot quicker too! 4) James should be given a rocket launcher at the beginning of the game so he can blast away the bad guys. Unlimited ammo too. 5) Take all the unnecessary fog away. I need to see where the hell I'm going! There should be no dark rooms either. When you're inside a building it should be extremely bright and well lit. Team silent fucked up bad here. 6) You and Eddie should team up so that another person can play with you as Eddie. The multiplayer aspect of you and friend being in silent hill will make the game scarier. 7) Cut out all the music and replace it with carnival music. When I'm playing a game I want to be reminded that I'm having fun. All the somber music depresses me and makes me wanna rage quit. 8) Make the puzzles more user friendly. I can't figure any of them out and it makes me feel like a total failure. My dad always called me stupid as a kid and when I'm playing this game it just confirms that he was correct. 9) Make the story about James coming to the town because he wants to take a vacation. The dead wife thing is off putting and I wanna see more people get into silent hill. 10) Instead of Maria dying, have pyramid fart on her and then she calls him poopie head. It's much needed comic relief. 11) Have Angela drop her backstory entirely and be a merchant pirate with an eyepatch. She can drive a boat around Toluca lake. Have her sell James weapons.. shotguns, pistols, bombs... you name it. 12)You should be able to strangle and kill Laura for putting you in that room with those Flesh Lips. Seriously, fuck Laura. You dump her body in a trash can and James says "Time to take out the trash!" Hahahaha... GET IT??? 13) You and Eddie should get to DP Maria. Eddie gets the pink.. James gets the stink 😎 14)There should be only one ending... James and Eddie drive out of town while drinking some beers and smoking mad joints blaring 80s hair metal out the windows. 👍This was such a stupid fucking post I think I lost a year of life just for writing it.
