I seriously recommend anyone with a PS2//access to an emulator to play Forbidden Siren 2. (See comments for reasons why)

Guess I should find a steel pipe before I leave the gym.....

Playing SH1 for the first time. I basically played the series backwards but, oh well. If I had played this back in the day, there's no way I would have been able to finish it. Even now, I'm marveling at the atmosphere they've created here in one of the greatest horror games ever made.

    Angela questions

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 07:22 PM PDT

The character of Angela seems so unbelievably sad to me, do you think she is still searching her fiery world for her mama? What happened to her mother anyway? I just feel like she will never find peace and it saddens me.

Interesting concept for Silent Hill 2 in VR.

Accidentally spoiled Silent Hill 3, please tell me it's not that major

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 06:13 PM PDT

Obviously, spoilers if you haven't played Silent Hill 3.

I just finished Silent Hill 2 and was looking around on this sub cause I was excited to play the 3rd one.

I stumbled upon a comment on SH3 thread that mentioned some male character dying and how it was abrupt. Is that a huge deal or is it just one event in the game's story? I'm playing it either way, just hope I still have a lot to discover in the game, plot-wise.

Tools of extract textures for Silent Hill 3

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 08:23 PM PDT

I plan to upscale all textures via ESGRAN a.i., just need a tool that can extract such. That way playing at 4k wont look so daunting.

An old piece of mine. My concept of a teenage Alessa if she ever appeared in the live action adaptations.

Bullet-point thoughts after playing SH1 for the first time

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 04:51 AM PDT

I played Silent Hill 2 over a decade ago, and it's one of my favourite games, but I never actually tried out the rest of the series. I've finally played the original Silent Hill, so here are my thoughts! (I mention SH2 a couple of times, but the only spoilers in here are for the first game.)

    • The atmosphere and environmental design are genuinely impressive for a PS1 game. Silent Hill really works at creating an interesting, unsettling environment within the limitations of the technology it's working with. I was struck by details like the patterns rain left on sand.

    • I love the silly little backwards hop that Harry can do. It's a crime that they removed that for the second game. The way they took the trouble to animate Harry slamming straight into walls if you run at them at high speed is also very good.

    • This game generally seems more interested in the nature of the town than in Harry himself, whereas Silent Hill 2 was an intensely personal story. In Silent Hill, Harry exists as a means through which you explore the town; in Silent Hill 2, the town exists as a means through which you explore James. It's an interesting difference.

    • Dahlia's voice actor is having such a great time.

    • Very pleased that the mysterious Flauros turned out to be a disco ball that shoots you.

    • It struck me partway through that both Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2 have casts that are approximately 70% female. It feels notable when majority-male casts seem so much more common in videogames, and indeed in fiction in general. I also remember being impressed to learn that Silent Hill 3 had a female protagonist, when at the time hardly any games did.

    • I got the bad ending on my first attempt. I feel that most people probably do. I laughed pretty hard when the comedic 'outtakes' started up straight after that bleak conclusion; it just wasn't what I expected!

    • I did have a save far back enough to play through the ending sequence again and get a better ending. I laughed during the good ending as well, I'll admit, when Alessa starts to birth a dark god in front of him and Harry's response, after a long pause, is an unsubtitled 'Huh?'

    • After the good ending, Harry pauses with his new baby in his arms and looks up into the sky with such a 'what now?' expression, and I can't blame him. I assume Harry has friends and family, and that Cheryl went to school; what is he going to tell them? 'Hello! My seven-year-old daughter had a baby and died, which is why she's suddenly been replaced by this infant. No more questions, please.'

    • It's really interesting to me that a New Game Plus starts with Harry waking in the café, rather than straight after the crash. Is there some sort of time loop going on?

    Terror and Fright

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 12:38 PM PDT

Which Silent Hill game truly made you feel frightened and terrified? And why did it frighten and terrify you?

For me, it's Silent Hill 3. The loud bombastic noises and music contrasted the absolute silence eerily. The rusted, hellish atmosphere amplified what Silent Hill 1 couldn't achieve at its time, and the surreal, fleshy, twitching monsters gave me such unease when combined with everything else and the excellent ambient soundtracks.

Uneternal Sleep - Forwards & Reversed (The same??)

    Uneternal Sleep

So, I've never seen this commented on anywhere before and I've always found it to be an eerie and interesting find.

Akira's composition in this song, instrumental hits and tuning is oddly, if not exactly, the same when played normally and reversed in this song.

I first noticed this about 10 years ago when I first REALLY got into the Silent Hill series beyond playing them, i'd often reverse tracks to see how they sounded while watching milkdrop to really take in the songs in these games.

    So what do you think?

Does this song sound the same both ways or am I just crazy?

Glad i finally decided to share this!

Can someone please help i've been playing silent hill 2 with the enhanced mod

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 02:53 PM PDT

I have been playing with an xbox 360 controller everything is functional except for some buttons are bound to things that i can't change and if I bind them to another thing it will use both inputs for example:pressing the left stick in without it bound to anything makes me walk backwards if i bind it to reload it will reload if i tap it but if i fully click it in i will still walk backward: i have the the same problem with down on the dpad it was bound to turn left no matter what i couldn't change it so when i bound it to walk backwards i would walk backwards and left. I really hope someone has a fix for this (another thing is the game will randomly crash every couple hours) Should i try deleting and redownloading the mods?

    What is a soft reboot?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 03:02 AM PDT

How do you feel about the 2 alleged Silent Hill games that are to be made? Personally, I don't know whether to be excited or worried, given the below average quality of the games that came out after SH 4.

One of the two games is said to be a soft reboot. Can someone clarify what that means? Is it like Shattered Memory, where the story is being retold in a slightly altered way?
