[META] About the Silent Hill leaker

So a few months ago, a user I won't mention posted a leak that a new Silent Hill game was being developed. He shared the proof with me, which I said is "okayish", but can be easily fabricated. He then tried to sell it to various members of the community, which resulted in him being banned. He then made an alt and started posting again in the subreddit, which also got banned.

In the last few days, he has been messaging multiple members of our community telling them about a new leek and asking them to post it in the subreddit.

We kindly ask you not to post anything he is saying to the subreddit, nor mention his username anywhere here.

Maybe he is telling the truth, maybe not. I don't know. But we aren't going to give him a platform to sell any leaks that might be a scam. If he messaged you and you would like to be scammed, it is up to you, but don't advertise his leaks here.

I said it once and I'll say it again: The "proof" he has is worth shit. It's worthless. Don't do it to your self.

If you have a leak you want to share with the community, contact the mod team. Posting a leak yourself (aside from article links) will get you banned. If you have insider info, let us know privately.

If you have any feedback/criticism on how we are handling this, please let us know.

Made this Maria cosplay years ago, but didn't have to guts to wear it to PAX. Since I'm playing SH2 tonight, it was time to conquer my fear!

Anybody knows a way to play The Room with a DualShock 4? The triggers don't work properly and some buttons are off. Delete if off topic.

Silent Hills, of all cancellations in all media, is the one that upsets me most. What content (novels, obscure films etc) can fill that void?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 09:13 AM PDT

What films or novels evoke similar dread, themes, story and plot that was in PT or potentially in Silent Hills can I see for myself? I want to fill the void left by the cancellation. IGN just released a video about PT today. I'm upset all over again.

    Silent Hill 3 puzzle difficulty?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 09:35 AM PDT

Hi guys, I just finished SH3 for the first time (Normal/Normal). Over the years I've seen a lot of people say that the third one has the most difficult puzzles.

Now, when I first played both SH1 and 2, I had to look up the guide for minor hints at what to do next. Silent Hill 3 seemed pretty straight forward to me, never got stuck and to be honest there weren't many puzzles in the game overall. The first game seemed way more difficult in that regard.

So my question is, why is Silent Hill 3 considered to have the hardest puzzles?

Cool paragraph I wrote in AI Dungeon

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 10:13 AM PDT

You walk through the gate exiting the little graveyard. There is no let up to the fog, but the sound of water begins to reach your ear. It could be the famed Toluca Lake, which Silent Hill was built around. Stories of missing vessels and abandoned prisons are tied to this lake, yet it also is associated with an old, spiritual persona of tranquility and serenity. On many days, just like today, the town is enveloped in the lake's heady presence -- a fog that cloaks the world of both past and present, leaving one to only the company of their mind's conjurings.

Man, that prose near the end is surprisingly inspiring even to me. I couldn't just let it be lost in a place like AI Dungeon, I had to put it somewhere.

Killing God is cool and all but... (Pretty long personal experience)

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 01:26 AM PDT

I just beat Silent Hill 2 for the first time. I'd been too scared for awhile, honestly I'm more of a watching-horror-games-being-played instead of playing them kind of guy, even on Easy the game terrified me even if I wasn't actually in much danger. 2 is probably the least scary of the original three anyways, so I wasn't really playing it for the scares, and I'm not much good at a lot of games anyways. Now, SH3 is, by all means, a better made game from a technical standpoint; it has better controls, graphics, more creepy, huge bosses, and serves as a great conclusion to the 1st game's story. But I think there's a big reason people cited 2 as one of the best games ever made, let alone one of the best horror games, or even Silent Hill games, ever made, and 3 has only peaked in popularity in recent years because of its technical superiority.

I was near the end of 2, in the hotel. I was at a point in the game where I knew the whole conclusion and how it would play out, I had watched a playthrough a year or two ago, so it felt like I was just beating the game to say I beat it. I had collected all the music boxes and I put them into the machine. That music began to play, and I don't think I've ever heard it before in full. It was the most beautiful piece of music in the game, and I'd never heard it. I just stood there for a minute and listened. I think that's really when it hit me.

Silent Hill 3 catches you off guard the mirror scene and Harry's death and fighting yourself, and God a little later. Silent Hill 2 caught me off guard with some pretty music. SH2 really catches you off guard with it's subtleties, and small, quiet, emotional moments, like the random noises you may or may not hear in the apartment, the huge room with nothing in it but silence and maybe the occasional shuffle, I wasn't even sure, the monster in the cage you can't see, and... A silly little music box. I remember wanting to help Angela but knowing she was right, I couldn't love her, I killed my own wife, and that brief first person camera from James's perspective making you feel just that much more useless, and killing the final boss and just watching the final scene with James and Mary, just talking for the last time, and I remember the last words of the game: "James... You made me happy." I will never forget those words, and I'm not ashamed to say I cried.

I sat in silence for minutes after the credits rolled. I don't think a game has hit me that hard since I beat Sonic Unleashed back when my grandma was really sick a few years ago, a month or so before she passed away. Silent Hill 2 reminded me of that sort of interpersonal grief, and yet.. the happiness of remembering someone. I think that's the power of Silent Hill 2, and why no other game in the series since has captured the same effect of the story. It's so tightly woven in its narrative and themes, and there's a reason a lot of it's flaws are untouchable, because reasonably, almost all of them can be connected to a theme. I think Silent Hill 2 seems like exactly what it wanted to be, a near perfect passion project given the budget SH1 needed with all of the groundwork to make it happen. I think 3, while it is, again, a technically better made game, it felt like "let's continue SH1's story, and let's do it perfectly!" (Which technically it was, considering 2 wasn't as popular in Japan because it had nothing to do with 1) And that's just what they did, and I love SH3!

But nothing is every gonna hit me harder than everything after that music box.

    Tl;dr: Man, I love Silent Hill 2.

Silent Hill 3 PC Screen Tearing Issues

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 10:38 PM PDT

I've finally after about a day of work with a faulty installer gotten Silent Hill 3 to work and it's fantastic with ONE glaring issue aside from controller issues: Screen Tearing, god awful, consistent screen tearing whenever the camera pans and if you know the silent hill series you know how often that is.

I'm usually a guy who turns Vsync off as I've rarely had a consistent problem or noticed it but with Silent Hill 3's PC Port it seems to be a consistent issue and eyegouging when it happens.

Is this a known issue when running your render resolution as equal to or less than your real resolution with the game? I'm currently running The SH3PC sound Fix, and the Silent Hill 3 Widescreen fix. I know of Silent Hill 3 PC Fix by steam006 which forces vsync in fullscreen mode, but it also does the same thing several other patches do, on top of adding wallhacks, anti aliasing, and other things I don't really want or need.

Is there a known solution to this? I've REALLY been enjoying the hell out of this game aside from that. I even had memories of playing it as a kid back when Gametap was a thing, and getting so piss scared before the roller coaster in the intro that it took me minutes to go down the tracks. Those freaking standing hand things have been in my psyche since I was around 10 years old. Does anyone know what to do?
