Can we admit that Downpour isn’t TERRIBLE?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 07:52 PM PDT

Downpour was the third SH game I played back in 2012. The other two were Origins and Shattered Memories—both of which scared the living shit out of me (I was 12, at the time. I have vivid memories of my first encounter with a nurse in Origins. I screamed, immediately turned off my PS2 and returned the game the day after I bought it... and bought Shattered Memories, because I thought it'd be less scary. Anyway!). I played Downpour not long after and, while it didn't scare me as much as the other two, I did enjoy it! The (art) direction, tone, atmosphere, depiction of Silent Hill, semi-open-world aspect, side quests and story were all surprisingly decent! Like Homecoming, DP recycles SH2's iconic story and twists, but it does it really well, I think. I was invested in the narrative and the character of Murphy from start to finish. Sure, I hadn't played SH2 at this point, so I didn't realize that DP was a watered-down (ha!) version of SH2 and didn't do really anything interesting—but this also means that my opinion on the game is entirely unbiased! On its own, DP is a well-told rehash of a familiar tale with some of its own (mostly unexplored) interesting ideas, creepy (but not at all on the level of the Team Silent games) imagery, and a unique take on the Otherworld. The Hansel and Gretel and movie reel set pieces were brilliant, and I wish the rest of the game encapsulated the same eeriness as those two sequences. I also remember being so unnerved by the fact that the DJ was stuck DJing forever, lmao! I'm not arguing that DP is a great game at all, I'm arguing that it's not as awful as SH fans make it out to be. Now, for my complaints about the game, just to be fair: It's buggy as HELL, the enemy design is uninspired, the combat is god-awful and the Otherworld was severely underutilized.

Trying to find a special youtube poop from silent hill 2

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 05:08 PM PDT

It's only a couple of years old but I'm pretty sure it got deleted from youtube, so I have no way to find out it's title.

The things which I definitely remember are:

Eddie shoots people because they hate his pizza, leonardo got his oscar for a chase scene and its a me maria had masturbated too much .

Would be nice if anybody knows which youtube poops I'm talking about and maybe know if it's still available somewhere.

    Launch issue

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 07:18 PM PDT

I have the latest Silent Hill 2 Enhanced update and the game will just hang with a black screen. I've left it set for several minutes but no changes. It doesn't crash it just sits with a black screen. No errors in the d3d8.log file. I have no idea why it doesn't work anymore. Please help.

Help me find a SH song that sounds almost exactly like this one

Can somebody please help me set up SH1 on PC?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 06:30 AM PDT

I tried downloading a complete package (game + emulator bundled in a .zip file, when I started the game my screen's resolution would set to 800x600 and that is literally all that happened), I tried downloading ePSXe + various SH1 ROMs, nothing has worked for me (Windows 10).

Why do people hate on Origins?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 12:37 PM PDT

It's my favourite western Silent Hill. It has a great atmopshere and great environmental storytelling, like finding the hotel room with a wedding dress and tuxedo. Other than the uninspired Pyramid Head rip off, I thought it was great. Artaud Theatre and the Cedar Grove Sanitarium were interesting levels. I love the plot behind Helen Grady. Konami didn't reuse the "I have amnesia" plot like they did with 3 other Silent Hills. Imo the only bad Silent Hill games are Homecoming and Shattered Memories. I think Downpour receives too much hate too. It has its own merits. Less jarring, more introspective. It reminded me of The Shawshank Redemption on acid.

    [Project] Devil’s Pit Dreams

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 08:00 AM PDT

I want to make something similar to Devil's Pit from SH Downpour in Dreams but need help with the sculpting. I was thinking of making it pretty much identical to the one from Dowpour but instead of making it across the character falls into the bottomless pit and when he wakes up he's in a different cave system that leads out to the town but it's the rust world

    My Silent Hill ranking

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 10:57 AM PDT

I started playing these games about 3 years ago and I decided to rank them and talk about them too.

    1. Downpour This one has really good combat. There isnt too much of it so it feels like a horror game and I like the exploration and side quests. The story is also really good.
    2. Shattered memories It has great music but it was disappointing when I found out there was no combat. It is a newer game so it is nicer to play but the chase sequences aren't good.
    3. 3 This one is the scariest. It is an old game so it has its problems but the atmosphere was great and the monsters were cool. If this game was combined with downpour it would be the best
    4. Homecoming It has cool combat but I think it would be better if there was more like downpour. Story wasnt that good. Music was very good.
    5. 2 I know a lot of people like this one but I think it's really boring. Just running around in circles being lost. The combat is bad. 3 has some of the same problems but it is actually scary. I did not get very far in this one.
    6. 1 It has not aged well at all. It has bad graphics and its boring like 2. The music is nice though. I probably would have liked it more if I played it when it came out. It is a good this that shattered memories was made so I can play a modern version of the game and get the story. I have not played 4 because it is not available on ps3
