I have the code now for anyone interested!

Silent Hill 4 is partly about “characters”, some of them worse than others. I’d like to hear about some of the ones you’ve met.

Graffiti Highway is being filled up

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:12 AM PDT

I'm not sure if this is allowed but I live in a neighboring town to Centralia, PA, the town that silent hill is based on. I think that enough of you are enthusiasts that like to visit the beloved graffiti highway. Today as I type this, Penndott came in with the owner's permission to destroy and fill up the highway. A lot of tourists came in and vandalized the whole town without realizing there are still people who live there, who want their town to be respected. Graffiti should've only been kept on the highway. It's a sad day for everyone in the community.

On a mission to play every Silent Hill

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:32 PM PDT

So I got it into my head that I was going to play all of them. Even Book of Memories. Prior to this I had only played 1 and most of 2. And so, early last month, that's exactly what I started to do. And today I am an hour into my final game, Downpour. The only game I played out of order was Book of Memories because who cares.

Anyway I didn't want to go into a whole long thing here but what surprised me the most was how well the original holds up. Atmospherically, mostly. Sure the acting is laughable and the controls are a pain but I had a ton of fun with it. And then I just about enjoyed every one after that except one.

2 and 3 were both well done. Maybe a little derivative but they certainly have their place in gamings top tier horror experiences. SH4 has its annoyances, like super obtuse puzzles in the second half that had me wandering aimlessly for way too long (damn subway), but I had fun with it nonetheless and enjoyed the chances they took with it.

Origins was short and forgettable but solid. Shattered Memories was perhaps the most intriguing but the "run from everything" sections were terrible. I wish they had just left them out all together and instead focused on the exploration and story which were great. I played the Wii version, and even the motion controls were fairly well done (except shaking baddies off only worked about half the time).

And Book of Memories was pretty mediocre. I got about 15 hours into it and just shrugged and said that'll do. I don't think I'm missing anything substantial by bit technically finishing it.

Homecoming I enjoyed perhaps the most gameplay wise. It felt pretty good and moved at a nice clip. There was very little backtracking and obtuse puzzles and instead focused on story and atmosphere and I appreciated that. There's only so many "get the string so you can combine it with the hook so you can put it in a drain so you can fetch a key so you can open a box so you can get a key so you can open a door" puzzles a man can take.

And finally, Downpour. Which at current I'm about an hour into. This is by far the worst one. It's so damn boring. It controls terribly. Combat feels awful. The story and characters so far are all annoying bad people. The enemies are just cheap shotting me left and right. They don't telegraph their moves well which makes blocking a chore. And when you do successfully block they back away so far from you that you can't follow it up with a good swing.

I'll still see it through to complete my journey but damn, talk about going out on a sour note. Anyways that's just my quick thoughts on this awesome series.

I just remembered that James is supposed to be 29 in SH2...

I didn't think much of it back in the day but that just seems so young to me now. Especially to be in a position he was in. To be a widower (amongst other things...) Before you're 30 is...something.

Anyone else who doesn't find the games particularly scary?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:30 PM PDT

I'm not complaining at all. I love my horror with depth and not just scary or gory or disturbing, and I have Silent Hill to thank for that. But for the most part, I just never found the series to be particularly nerve-wracking like it's hyped up to be. Origins scared me when I first played it, and the movie did, too, but otherwise, it's always come off as going beyond just "horror". There's characters you like and identify with (or have generally strong feelings about), beautifully built while simultaneously hideous scenery, and endings that you really want for them that it's almost enough to forget that you're playing a series that's meant to scare you. If you ask me, the horror isn't intended to scare on a surface level like, say, Fatal Frame or Resident Evil, but on a much more personal one.

First post ever - Silent Hill 1 Questions

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 12:18 PM PDT

Hi everybody! I've been playing Silent Hill since I was literally 7 years old, I discovered it in 2002... I've been lurking this sub for almost 3 years now but I didn't have a Reddit account, now I have made one and this is my first post!

Yesterday I finished SH 1 again (first time in 3 years!) and I've noticed two things I haven't before:

    1. Whats with the body in Midwich where you found the shotgun? There's a graffiti next to it in the wall that says: "Leonard Rhyne - The monster lurks". What's with that? The wikia says Leonard Rhyme could be the author of the book we found moments later in the game, but I was thinking there should be more to that... Isn't he the dead body? And could he be a "monster"? Any theories?

    2. When Harry meets Cybil in the Antique Shop she knows nothing about an "otherworld". I've never noticed it before, why can't she see it? What about the others characters: Dhalia, Kauffman... can they see it or don't?

Okay that's all! Thanks in advance for your answers! (Just an FYI: English is not my native language, so please ignore everything that it's not spelled/phrase correctly!)

Does anyone have a PS4 with PT on it willing to game share?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:02 PM PDT

I just now realised you can play Silent Hill 3 with a Ps1 controller

What happens if the “God” is actually summoned and isn’t stopped?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 11:42 PM PDT

I have always wondered what the world in these games would look like if everything went downhill, and the cults actually get what they want. Is any of this actually written out somewhere, or is everything just up to us to decide for ourselves? I know there's a small cutscene and a game over screen in Silent Hill 3 if certain things happen.

I really want to read what could possibly happen, and what the outcomes are. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or does anyone have those answers? Thanks.

Silent Hill 2 gave me Nightmares

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 08:44 PM PDT

I love horror like you. I watched the Ring by myself and have played PT, Outlast, etc. But Silent Hill 2 is the first work of horror that gave me 3 nightmares back to back to back. Oddly enough they mostly involved Leatherface but I had played SH2 for about 2 hours before going to bed. I'm honestly kind of scared to play it at night now! Love this community too bad Kojima gave us the biggest blue balls of all time last month. Oh well... stay out of the fog!

Thank you all for your upvote! The subreddit is up!

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:14 AM PDT

If some of you remember my picture with the Halo Of The Sun tattoo, it worked! I created the subreddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Krimson_Games/ and it was fast! Just to mention for those who don't know what i'm talking about, we are currently developing a game inspired by Silent Hill and P.T, so this is why i'm sharing it here!

Here's a little glimpse of the first post :)

    Thank for your support :)
