Eddie can't just do things Part 2

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 01:30 AM PDT

I just finished Silent Hill 2 for the first time, and WOW. What a ride.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 07:20 AM PDT

I had this game on my to do list, and after my friend recommended that he'd love to see me play it I took up the challenge and recorded my experience. I've just beaten the game now and my brain is swimming in questions and theories at what I just experienced. What a beautiful, haunting and heartbreaking story.

I'm sitting here going through my recording for the ending and needed somewhere to look for more answers and I ended up here. Please help me figure out the timeline of events with how James ended up coming back to Silent Hill and let's talk about the whole game in general. I need to discuss.

I'm going to definitely be looking into playing Silent Hill 1 & 3 very soon now too because of this.

If any of you are interested, I've also linked my first video of my playthrough here as I edit my final 2 videos.

Any Advice On How To Beat The Floatstinger With Only On Health Potion And An Axe.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 06:52 PM PDT

I have no ammo because after beating phase one of this I thought there would be a chance to get more ammo before I fought something else. I honestly thought it didn't have two phases.

    30 hour new ps2 team silent game or a 10 hour P.T.?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 12:37 PM PDT

Just out of curiosity. I could be very wrong about this, but it's always felt for the longest time that games have been generally getting shorter and shorter in story the better the graphics and more intricate the game mechanics were. That observation inspired this question. If I'm full of crap, then this is all just for fun 🤷‍♂️

Would you rather have a silent hill game made by team silent, with 30 hours minimum of story (giving most newbies probably 45 to get through), lots and lots and lots of cutscenes, development of characters/atmosphere, and places to go, BUT the graphics, atmosphere, amount of monsters/action/sounds that you actually come across per room/building/street, and tank controls are the same caliber as 2, 3, and 4 (Like it was made in the early 2000s, but giving it triple the length of story since new consoles can handle it. I'll even throw in some more doors with locks that aren't broken)

    OR

Would you rather have a 10 hour (max) actualized Silent Hills made on PS4 by Kojima, Del Toro, and with Reedus; Unlimited budget, full creative control? And those 2 stuff as much psychological terror as they possibly can into those ten hours and give you a wild ass ride the whole time

Off the top of my head I'd probably go team silent, but it's a tough one for me 🤔 especially since I grew up a little more on the Metal gear games than silent hill, admittedly

First post ever, thanks for having me!

Is Silent Hills Teaser actually good?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 11:52 AM PDT

Back in the day I did not get the chance to play Silent Hills teaser, but everyone talked (some keep talking) about it like it was the best horror game ever made.

I've seen some clips of Lisa, heard the murder radio audio (in MGSV) and, of course, I've seen the house were everything happens, and I must say it seems tremendously cliché. I mean, a ghost of a girl on a white robe? I can't help to think on those awful photoshop images that you find by writing "Real ghost" on google images or those murder podcasts that are greatly exaggerated. Besides, I don't know if I am into the idea of a First Person Silent Hill.

To be fair, I have not play P.T. and I don't know if this is true or not, but I don't seem to be interested enough to look for a download link. Then, I've gotta ask: Is P.T actually scary and not a B-film mess? What's all the fuzz about? Is it because of Kojima? Is it worth playing?

When Silent Hill is getting to you...

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 07:35 AM PDT

So I've been playing through all the Silent Hill games in my spare time (what little of it I have) over the last month. I started with SH2, played 3 and 4 and currently I'm almost done with Homecoming. So basically I've been immersing myself in the SH environment maybe an hour every other day for a month.
I'm teleworking now; my home office is also my guest bedroom and game room. I have 2 kids and like 5 sound machines throughout the house. Well, today, whole working, the sound machine directly outside my office door faded in and on to full blast. My blood ran cold and I stood up from my chair wondering why I was immediately on edge. A second of clarity later I realized that the sound machine puts off white noise static just like the radios from the SH games. My off and on playing has conditioned me to be wary when I hear the quote noise static fade in. Maybe I need to switch back to Doom for a while.....

Also, we're all quarantined like The Room... just saying. It's getting real....

SH1 via Beetle HW can look magnificent!

I used RetroArch with the Beetle HW core and tweaked the settings/adjusted contrast and added grain with a shader to create my perfect SH experience. Time to replay it!

Is Bloober Team making new Silent Hill game?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 07:05 AM PDT

This statement from Bloober Team (authors of Blair Witch, Layers of Fear and Observer) came today:

The Management Board of Bloober Team S.A. based in Krakow (hereinafter referred to as the "Issuer") informs that yesterday it concluded a significant agreement with a global publisher, one of the world leaders in the gaming industry, regarding game production, based on one of the brands owned by the publisher. Pursuant to the agreement, the Issuer will receive, among others "advance" remuneration after meeting agreed milestones, and the value of the entire development budget exceeds the equity of the Issuer.

    - The signed contract means promotion to the first league of world game producers. All our subsequent projects due to their size can be described as indie AAA or AAA looking through the prism of our specialization. Due to the terms of the contract, as well as marketing plans, we will be able to disclose the details of the new project next year - comments Piotr Babieno, president of the Bloober Team.

So - Bloober Team is making an AAA well-know IP title for one of the biggest publishers in the market. What would you think if it turned out that they do Silent Hill?

Anyone else feel like Heather could’ve been designed better?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 04:19 PM PDT

I get what they were going for but it's weird that they made her facially less attractive but stylistically more attractive. I think there was disagreement within the team that Heather was intended to be a tomboy with masculine clothing, but the female members decided they wanted femininity? It's weird

    Replaying SH2. Question regarding brightness.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 12:39 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I'm currently replaying SH2 and have just entered the first apartment.

Inside the building, I'm unable to see much of my surroundings, which is making navigation difficult. I've already adjusted the brightness in the pre-game menu so the vertical lines were just visible and I've no problems with the game's brightness until now. In fact, the game looks gorgeous.

I'm aware I can adjust my TVs brightness to solve my problem, but I'm wondering if this difficulty/lack of brightness was an artistic choice to enhance the the player's horror experience until a flashlight is found?

Pitch a quick Silent Hill game idea, just for fun

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:35 PM PDT

Thought it would be fun to make a thread where people pitch quick Silent Hill game ideas, nothing too deep and complex, just basic ideas of settings, soundtrack, aesthetics, etc.

    1. Protagonist living in a nearby town gets a mysterious and disturbing public access tv channel signal coming from Silent Hill and follows it out of morbid curiosity, stumbling into something worse than they could have ever imagined.
    2. Makes use of media to invoke fear (tv screens, radios, phones, etc.) as well as fusions of flesh with machinery and technology, like David Cronenberg's Videodrome.
    3. Dark experimental industrial hip hop elements in the soundtrack (think Death Grips or Clipping).
    4. Some settings and locations include: grocery store, carnival, art museum, aquarium, abandoned military base, tv station, cave, construction site

    5. Episodic story featuring multiple characters on branching paths that eventually connect (think the "Siren" series). Each character has different mechanics (one will be followed by a terrifying Nemesis-like monster, one will not have a radio, etc.)

    6. soundtrack featuring many grungy, slurred, and discordant guitars (think "The Last Mariachi" from the SH4 ost or the Primus song "Hail Santa")

    7. some locations: trailer park, historical museum, beach boardwalk, farm with cornfields, suburban home, waterpark, swamp, zoo, island prison, abandoned film studio
