For anyone looking to play Silent Hill 1 and 2.

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 01:28 PM PDT

After finishing SH 2 again, but this time on the flawed HD Collection for Xbox One, i wanted to play SH 2 on a better version of the game, after some research, i recommend the Enhanced Edition, is not perfect but looks great, has a lot of features and graphical improvements, probably the best version of the game.

Also i tried to play SH 1 again, but this time the digital version on PS3, and the game looks awful, so i tried an emulator, the ePSXe emulator is fine and looks good, but the RetroArch is just way better with the PGXP corrections, it fixes the wobbly polygons and textures, and has a lot of graphical improvements, the game looks impressive for a PS1 game.

    I uploaded some screenshots:

Anyone got a workout plan that will get me in shape to swing around the Great Knife flawlessly and rip the skin off of humans with ease like Pyramid Head? Any diet plans would be a plus as well.

What would you wanna see in a SH1 Remake?

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 03:40 PM PDT

Let's say a hypothetical SH1 Remake was announced and was set for the PS5. Imagine what can be done with the capabilities of the PS5. What are some things you'd look forward to seeing? Anything you'd want changed? Not changed?

Silent Hill 3 PC Framerate and Shadows issues - Steam006 Patch installed

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 09:05 PM PDT

    Hello all,

Just wondering if there is any way to resolve ongoing issues with the framerate on Silent Hill 3 for PC.
Steam 006's patch was installed but it didn't do anything to fix the problems, framerate still sporadically jumps anywhere from 20FPS - 60FPS during both FMVs and gameplay. Even using a cap of 30FPS hasn't done the job. It seemingly also made issues with the shadows more apparent.
Has anyone else had this issue on Windows 10 and been able to fix it?

Never had any issues with the original PC version back on Windows 7 and it would be great to experience the game in all its glory once more.
Currently on Windows 10, using a Geforce RTX 2060, and i7. Would the issue lay within using Windows 10 itself or are there any ways around it?

What's the main source of the horrors in Silent Hill 2?

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 09:53 AM PDT

In the core series of Silent Hill, it was done by the Order or by God. Like how Claudia tried forcing Heather to give birth to God in order to create a Paradise. But Silent Hill 2 shows otherwise, it's just about James Sunderland killing or escaping the monsters of the town in order to find his supposed dead wife, Mary. But there's not even a single involvement or relation with the Order or with God, there are no relations of any occult groups, just with mental issued people. So, what is the main cause of the monsters and the horrors James had to go through in Silent Hill 2?

What are your thoughts on Eddy's character and arc?

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 10:29 AM PDT

In a poll I did a while back, people typically didn't nominate Eddy's scenes as particularly defining of Silent Hill 2. But I want to discuss what, if anything, Eddy adds to the narrative.

I guess it's best to consider it from the point of view of, what would we lose of we cut Eddy from the game? So maybe we have one less person to talk to. I don't think we gain much from the conversations we have with Eddy. So maybe he served as a mini-boss at the end of his character arc. I don't think I felt much connection to his character enough to appreciate the tragedy of his end or how to relates to James; or if we were to view him as an antagonistic force, he's not exactly very threatening, at least spiritually.

So I'd appreciate other people's views on the character. Maybe we can think of reasons why Eddy shouldn't be cut from the game. :)

¿So, do you recommend me to play the PS2 or PC versions? I have access to both versions on my PC.

Not Meming This Time or a Serious Talk about Why Soft Reboot Isn't a Very Good Idea

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 11:48 AM PDT

    Greetings, dear Town Residents!

Please, do not be triggered worried, as the only goal of this post is to share some personal observations on lore of our beloved series and to express some concerns about problems a potential soft reboot might or might not face.

I believe the majority of folks here wouldn't mind a new game in the series (you know, a good new in the series). That would be definitely healthy not only for Silent Hill, Konami and whatever friendly console holder, but for the horror genre in gaming. One of the major tendencies of horror genre we are observing at the moment is that a certain element that would be a part of a bigger picture in any old horror game (not necessarily a survival horror) is basically the only thing that is present in the said game. And this is true both for the story and gameplay (one of the latest examples is DreadOut 2).

The other tendency is making too big of a focus on gameplay and stuffing the lore mostly somewhere "there", whether it's a hub (Dark Deception) or some hidden messages and external resources (Five Nights at Freddy's). Neither of the said is bad, but it's also true the two must come back together at last and take advantage of technological and cultural progress to create that completely new game experience Alone in the Dark, Resident Evil/Biohazard and, of course, Silent Hill once gave us more than 20 years ago. Surely, we have occasional The Evil Within and RE VII, but it would be wrong to decline the fact that they represent the last strain of somewhat outdated (or better to say, overused) game design schemes. No way they are bad and they do bring a lot on the table (same with recent RE Remakes), but P.T. and the Beginning Hour did you get the pun, btw? You know, Beginning Hour, BioHazart, ha. Jeez, it took me 6 years to figure that one out showed us that it not only can, but MUST be different now. We are up to a new Era and there isn't a better way to enter it, but a great comeback of survival and psychological horrors, or neo survival and psychological horrors, to be accurate. And Silent Hill can do that, ESPECIALLY as a soft reboot.

Now what does a soft reboot mean? Well, speaking briefly, it means the main mechanics of the Town are back. You know, "anyone entering this realm with a heavy burden may sink into the very bottom". This "therapist town" stieg Silent Hill developed in SH2. Yeah, dear fellows, some of you may not know, but the Foggy Town hasn't been always punishing some assholes mental cases for their terrible sins. It's something that was invented in Silent Hill 2 and it's what partially is responsible for the decline of the series (seriously, look at any SH game after the Room. They are all, basically, SH2 with slight variations, as Twin Perfect once rightfully said). It's correct, though, that the Town manifests into reality thoughts, fears and emotions of the Host of the Nightmare, if you don't mind calling them that (those were Alessa, James, Claudia and Walter Sullivan in respective games). However, the Town did it not because there's some kind of alternative reality, like in Forbidden Siren, but because of the demon power that was summoned by the cult.

Here is a problem. If there's no cult or no cult members that know how to perform all rituals correctly (or know such rituals exist in the first place) and the actual Demon banished in SH1 and its reincarnations defeated in SH3 and SH4 (assuming the 21 Sacraments Ending didn't happen) there is no something what Harry Mason called the Otherworld. It means, with no demon in the Town and no cultists capable of worshipping, let alone summoning, there it, there is no power Silent Hill is notorious for. It's over. Silent Hill is just a regular resort town with corrupted administration and a powerful lobby of the cult that are basically just drug dealers. I know, I know about SH2 and I know about high cult members. Let me explain myself.

Let's start with an obvious one: why do I say it's all over after either 3 or the Room, if we have SH2? Now, it isn't too smart to put Silent Hill lore on a timeline, but, thank the Lord for my FNaF experience, I've learned you don't need a timeline to put games in an order! A popular evidence used for proving SH2 happens before SH3 is the equipment in Brookhaven Hospital; it looks like it came from different eras, SH3 having more modern devices than SH2, but since most of you are going to deny it and brush it off as just a representation of some time period... because the Town likes telling stories about the good ol' days, I guess, (it kinda likes, though, not gonna lie) and not because the said devices are used during the time James' story takes place in, so I'm going to say SH4 alludes to this conclusion. If you don't mind, I leave it on this level for now, because that part is a topic for another post and this one is already taking a bit too long. But if you're interested, I want you to take notice of Daliah's letter in the 3S before it got burned, every article related to Walter and the Wish House, and a little notice Henry makes at one point about the picture Superintendent Sunderland gave him. The other thing I want to make clear is that it's not that important whether the Room happens before or after SH3, the result is the same - the last strain of the Demon God is banished. As for dead high ranked cult members, remember that they were killed in SH1 (Daliah and Kaufman), 3 (Vincent and Claudia) and 4 (Jimmy the Red Devil's henchman, who brainwashed Walter alongside someone else, as far as I remember. All killed by Sullivan).

So what is left of Silent Hill by this point? The hauntings? That may work, but in the end it wouldn't be much different from Pamali If I'm not mistaken, in this game they have several folklore stories that ultimately represent paranormal encounters of several different people, which is a great concept few people are experimenting with, unfortunately, but, like, it's low for Silent Hill. Silent Hill isn't a living collection of hauntings. I mean, it is, but in this regard it isn't much different from any other place with a bad reputation, without the demonic influence, at least. (I wouldn't mind a DLC made in this style, though. Imagine playing as a reporter that can woodoo a little and walk around the Town, collecting info about local murders and folk stories)

The only way to go is bringing the Demon God back somehow. And this is extremely problematic, since the members left in the cult don't know better. Whoever is going to attempt summoning will likely create their own version of the Demon God instead of bringing it back to the Waking World. Even if they succeed, the game will copy either SH3 or the Room, which is good just because it won't try to go SH2 road that literally killed the series. But again, it's not what we want. We want something fresh. Plus the series is in desperate need of something new. P.T. showed da way, you may say, but it has a high risk of degrading into another SH2 copy or a hauntings trip, and it doesn't matter if you switch the location entirely and turn Silent Hill into a concept.

So these were my thoughts and concerns. If you need more insight on anything, please let me know. Thanks for your patience and attention.

EDIT: I'm terribly sorry for mistakes and some awkward phased sentences. Fixed them all.
