    SILENT HILL 2 & 3 - I'm crying.

    Posted: 05 May 2020 03:51 PM PDT

Its been 7 years since i beat silent hill 2. 4th time beating this game, and i took the In Water ending today.

Right now im playing silent hill 3, and as soon as i listened to End Of Small Sanctuary, seeing Heather talking on the telephone, i just saw myself in tears.

I didnt know why i was crying, but i remembered.

In summer 2012, a friend of mine died due to meningitis (she was 11) and i didnt realized (until a few minutes ago) that Heather looks like her.

I mean, i can see the similarity even in the voice.

I cant play this game anymore. This is hurting me so much.

    I miss ya, Thais.

    Silent Hill 2 Controls

    Posted: 05 May 2020 06:43 PM PDT

So yes, I'm young. I'm 20 and only recently just got back into games. I grew up watching my dad play the Silent Hill franchise, so I decided it was time for me to play Silent Hill 2. I have the X-Box One S, so sadly I could only get the HD collection :( Anyways, how long will I get used to these early 3-D gaming controls lol? I understand it's a product of the time and I enjoy the experience, but i still find myself trying to use it like modern controls and end up going in the opposite direction or spinning in circles RIP

Does slashing yourself with an axe has that Silent Hill vibes now?

Silent Hill: Homecoming feels kind of incomplete and doesn't really feel like a Silent Hill game. I am kind of disappointed with the game.

    Posted: 05 May 2020 03:30 PM PDT

Did any other team silent members besides Akira Yamaoka work on the game? The game is kind of clunky and weird, and the camera sways side to side and the enemies can be a little bit over powered sometimes.

Why is the Silent Hill community so split? A Silent Hill game is a Silent Hill game, regardless of if Team Silent developed the game or not.

    Posted: 05 May 2020 05:32 PM PDT

Oh jeez I'm ready for the downvotes. But honestly everyone should be able to express their own opinions, we all have our own opinions. But when I look at all of the Resident Evil games that were made, they are almost always developed by a different team at capcom. And that community loves all of the games equally and they dislike the ones that are actually bad, not because they were developed by a different team. (Maybe that's why they're getting remakes and we aren't) 🤔

Honestly in my unpopular opinion I like Silent Hill 3, then 1, then HD Collection, then Downpour, then Origins then 2 and I didn't really like 4 or Homecoming.

Just because team silent wasn't involved in any game after 4, doesn't make them any less good. Team Silent did create the series but they've been broken up for years. Honestly, Silent Hill is Silent Hill, and I appreciate all of its lore and games even Homecoming. And especially HD Collection. And I even appreciate the Movies! I watch them from time to time. ❤ Nothing has influenced my life like Silent Hill has, in ALL of its glory.

    Symbolism and creature analysis thread

    Posted: 05 May 2020 07:33 AM PDT

    UPDATED

    SILENT HILL 2

I would like to start a thread where we give our opinions and analyses of everything related to Silent Hill. As you know, all the creatures, signs, etc. have a meaning and I would like to delve deeper to understand what each item represents (for example, the rain in Downpour represents Murphy's guilt over killing Napier, James' Pyramid Head represents his guilt and need to be punished, etc.)

Since Silent Hill 1 has the town in Alessa's eyes and not Harry's, I'll start with Silent Hill 2.

    Lying Figure

Likely represents Mary's hospitalization and her inability to break away from it. It can also represent James feeling trapped with Mary while she was sick, since he wished her to be dead. The acid spewing may represent vomiting and the erratic movement may represent sickly patient's inability to walk properly.

    Bubblehead Nurse

James is sexually deprived due to Mary being sick, therefore he sees the nurses as sexual objects; no face, visible cleavage, short skirts, etc.

The bubble, "condom", type head of the nurse is representative of suffocation.[3] This references the events when James killed Mary by suffocating her with a pillow; hence, the reason why their heads convulse violently like somebody trying to break free from being suffocated.

    Mannequin

Pretty obvious, they represent a sexually abused victim. In this case, they represent James' suppressed sexual desires and deprivation. In the apartment, you run into a mannequin dressed as Mary, but with no head, which further proves that James may have viewed Mary as a sexual object, rather than feeling any affection for her.

    Flesh Lip

According to the Book of Lost Memories, the lattice represents a bed, and the "mouth" located on the abdomen symbolizes Mary's mouth.[1] The monster's lips are reflections of Mary's mouth which abused James with cruel words during her last days, according to developer Masahiro Ito.[2]

The cage-like contraption each Flesh Lip is held within could also be symbolic of how Mary was confined to a bed in her terminal illness, as this greatly limited her freedom.

    Abstract Daddy

Lots of things were mentioned here, the main one being that just like for Flesh Lip, the frame represents the bed which Angela was abused on. The room you fight the boss in was speculated to look like Angela's uterus, with little holes in the walls representing either sexual abuse or the number of times Angela was abused. Some people have speculated that the mouth on Abstract Daddy represents the vaginal cavity, however this remains open for debate

    Pyramid Head

The most prominent figure in all Silent Hill games. He takes various appearances (SH Homecoming as the Boogeyman, etc), but one thing is for sure - he was based on the executioners which we see in the historical society in SH2. Most likely, James visited the society with Mary prior to her illness and therefore manifested Pyramid Head as his executioner.

James feels guilty and PH is here to punish him for his sins and to remind him he killed Mary (by constantly killing Maria). Masahiro Ito stated that PH is exclusively James' monster, however Konami wanted to use him in other games due to his popularity.

As for the scene where PH kills Maria, Ito elaborated that one PH represents Mary. However you look at it, PH is here as the main catalyst of punishing the people who have sinned and made their way into Silent Hill. Similarly to him we see the Boogeyman in Downpour and [I might be wrong], Valtiel in SH3.

    Maria

She was born as James' ideal woman. We see that she realizes this in the Born from a wish content and apparently accepts her role in guiding James through the town. Her connection with Laura is residual from Mary, since Mary and Laura got close in the hospital. Depending on the choices, her outcome can vary. I have yet to investigate in depth what lies deeper.

I don't have time right now, but will continue the thread later. Feel free to add to the list in the comments

The hole: Represents taking a leap of faith into the unknown to achieve desired goals. James is warned beforehand about proceeding, most likely because the truth would break him.

The long corridor: Most of the time, corridors or long walkways represent an arduous journey or obstacle before reaching a goal.

There was a hole here. It's gone now. I never read into this and have yet to decipher what it means.

Just finished Silent Hill 2 for the first time

    Posted: 05 May 2020 09:16 AM PDT

Like everyone I loved the atmosphere, loved the atmosphere, I needed a walkthrough during some portions and got creeped out many times (last time was last night when the piano scene happened). I played the original Xbox version on my 360, there where missing textures from time to time. I've been thinking about playing it again since it took me a while (about a 6 months of on again off again playthrough), idk if i should try for a different ending (I got the water one) or move on to SH3. What would you guys recommend? I also have Fatal frame 2.

So the woman who sings the vocals in the Silent Hill songs. Are Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Melissa Williamson the same person?

    Posted: 05 May 2020 03:27 AM PDT

I saw Melissa Williamson was an alias of Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, I also read thar they're twins. If they are1nt the same person then why do they both have credit for vocals in the Silent Hill Soundtracks???
