I made Pyramid Head from my old Bruce Lee action figure. It’s about 30cm tall (12 inches). I’m going to make more characters and enemies from SH2 with my other action figures.

Finished Silent Hill 2 - Masterpiece

    Posted: 23 May 2020 12:04 PM PDT

I just have to say, I played most of the Silent hill games when I was younger but I just couldn't appreciate them properly. Knowing what happens at the end of SH2 made me go into this new play through with a different lens and every single aspect of the game was so meticulously made to serve the story and your connection/understanding of James. The long walk at the start really makes you feel like you can't go back now, the symbolism of each enemy and how the world would torment itself as the game went on. The perfect awkward controls that add to the story, every aspect was perfect. The sound. I am in complete awe of this game. Everything serves the story.

I have a problem emulating the first Silent Hill game

    Posted: 23 May 2020 03:07 PM PDT

So I wanted to catch up on the Silent Hill franchise since I have never played it,and because I have no other option I tried to play it on an emulator. But as the game started, the sound began repeating itself and the video was glitching out.

does anybody know how to fix this

A hypothetical idea for a silent hill-inspired game

    Posted: 23 May 2020 10:21 AM PDT

I'm putting this here because, honestly, it's kind of my best chance to get feedback to an idea I'm spinning in my headspace for a while and maybe inspire someone else:

Imagine a game where the player character is a young adult. Yes I have modeled him as an exaggerated version of myself, but that's more because this game is inspired a bit by what I believe to be my fatal flaw:wrath. So he's a regular-ass bored guy. Pretty functional, not really social but gets along well with people usually. He hears about this weird town and decides "oh boy it's about time I get something interesting in my life". I know this sounds stupid, but come on! I believe many my age would jump at the call to adventure. And that's what would be his downfall as well. Because what's another typical attitude for early 20s? That you're invincible, correct! Now this guy is in moderately good shape. Weightlifter/rugby player physique, high power output but stamina about as good as slightly above average (I'm aiming for that type of body, gotta lose weight, but it's needed to communicate one core thing) so he's pretty tasty in a fight. The game ought to have an over the top style of camera rather than cinematic, emphasizing his intimidating physique and overwhelming power compaared to the average characters. You have 2 slots for weaponry, and they upgrade over time: a meelee, one-handed weapon and a long-range one. They are never stowed. Aiming is always wonky, then increases a bit when shooting in order to encourage the player to be aggressive with the gun. You also have a "damage mitigation" button. The character holds his hand out, and either intercepts incoming attacks or navigates around them (there should 100% be enemies that punish overreliance on this mechanic). So far it sounds terrible as a silent hill game, I know. Because you're not supposed to be a powerhouse. So here's the third act twist: You're not. Physically sure, no one would stand a chance against this character. But not mentally. No he's not dumb. People can be well built and smart at the same time, neither excludes the other. No, he's weak mentally. His mental state will degrade over the course of the game and it's not fixable. At fixed points you will also take a docking (seeing characters die, or needing to be extra brutal or whatever). Slowly over the course of the game you would organically see his degeneration. From confidently walking forward with wrath to spill the monsters' blood to starting to look left and right when sounds are heard, to always looking around, to checking his back and these should happen even when you're in a dark area with a flashlight specifically pointing ahead. Another core thing should be the monsters: no actual combat monsters should look like their hits should kill. They should bite, bash, scratch and peck at him but they should not cut or slash. That isn't to say that they couldn't be used, an alligator like enemy that would bite at his extended hand dealing more damage should exist, but he should be shown clearly pulling his hand out, causing teeth to scratch into his flesh instead of having it bitten of. And these types of enemies should appear more and more. Their attacks (whose animations would show our PoV character clearly avoiding the brunt of the hit) would also give us the added benefit of making our hero seem to run out of our control as we descend together with him in the hell of his own making. In the end the story is either about him learning that he should exercise kindness and nurturing instead of always seeking to cut the problem at the root, or about him finally going in so deep that he fundamentally loses his humanity. His end should be unclear, but not good. He could become a slavering creature that just forces his will on weaker others, in essence just becoming another monster in the town, but of human origin (he is not in any way corrupted, just gone off the deep end), or come across someone or something more powerful than him.

Obviously this isn't perfect, I'm not a game designer and even as an amateur writer I'm at BEST D-tier but it's a story that would speak to me. I'm just curious how many others would find it speaks to them too, and where you think I might be able to improve it. Hell, the discrepancy between the idea in my head and how it would turn out if someone literally sat me down, talked the broad strokes so I could have the best impact, did the best job possible in making it into a game might be enormous. But nevertheless I wanted to throw out my idea particularly because I'd been thinking how a horror game where the protagonist is physically overpowered could still play out and be a horror game. Looking forward to feedback!

    Question: What's With Valtiel's Misogyny?

    Posted: 23 May 2020 03:50 AM PDT

Hi, I went through SH3, but I'm wondering why does Valtiel seem to have a deep-seated hate against nurse monsters?

He is abusing one of them seemingly sexually, in the hospital, inside a smoky room. And in the chapel, he is seen pulling up and down one by the neck, as if strangling her? Among other sightings.

So I was wondering if there's some theme of misogyny I missed with regards to Valtiel

I got to the church, which I found out soon was more than I thought it was, cus I thought the chapel was the final boss fight. But the issue is that I have NOTHING to heal myself with and my health is in the red. My controller's heartbeat is going crazy, and they just introduced these running dudes. I need health fast cuz I have one hit of health left 😭😭😭
