If you say YES, I will!

    Posted: 22 May 2020 02:51 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

So, this week I came up with an idea which is having a livestream on youtube called "Heaven's Night", a radio only Silent Hill OST's playing. I've had a trial stream on my own (literally, coz nobody joined) and I think I will be able to pull this off. I am going to share the link of it so you guys have a peek and call it in or out. And finally like the title says, if you say yes, I will stream 24/7!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDpSOojMo2I

Btw, before the "you just advertising your sh*t" simps come, it's 100% non-profit stream due to copyright issues. Rather than that, I would like to know the reason for a down vote, thanks

New to Silent Hill: what I've been missing all these years!

    Posted: 22 May 2020 01:27 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to reddit and also to the Silent Hill saga, so I'm sorry for this useless post that for sure has already been made dozens of times, but I feel like I have to share my experience: I played Downpour when it came out (I liked it but I don't remember much) and PT, being a Kojima fan, but I never had the chance to actually dive in to the saga: I always read about what a masterpiece SH2 is, about its psychological horror, and about its soundtrack, but never got the chance to play it!

But a few days ago i finally managed to do so... and what I've been missing! Since the first mirror scene in those dirty, abandoned restrooms until the hotel section I always felt a constant feel of damnation, pervading every damn moment of the game: a silent one, indeed, but penetrating in my soul in a violent and strange way. In fact, if someone would ask me "How do you imagine hell?" I'd answer something like that. A "normal" place like a city, a palace, a museum, a hotel, where every location is cursed, damned. Where you are forced to deal with yourself and your consciousness by facing the dirty reality that your soul projects. Where you're not sure if the place your in is dream or reality, and where this feeling pervades everything, everyone, even other people: people that cannot be distinguished by ghosts.

That's what horror is. I'm also a big fan of RE saga: I don't know if these franchises are considered rivals, but I for sure experienced a lot more connection with Silent Hill and its characters in 7 hours of game than in the entire saga of RE (which imho wins under other aspects, more gamplay related, but that's another story).

So, if that's not too much, I'd like to write down a few specific things that hit me particularly in the game, among the ones already described:

    • The apartments: wow, I don't know if because they are the first closed area, but those are scary and really strange
    • Angela character: mesmerizing, every encounter, since the one in front of the mirror 'till the one in the hotel with flames around her, was something straight from hell. In every dialogue the feeling of damnation is tangible, both for her and for James. (That strange room where you protect her, with those creepy tubes in the walls going back and forth just creeps me out! If anyone knows what they are supposed to be please tell me! Maybe a reference to her being sexually abused?)
    • James' nonchalantly: at least 'till the end of the game he always seems like he's totally fine with what is happening around him. I really liked this aspect of his character, adds depth to what he's forced to deal with and to the fact that he is actually aware of his past.
    • Heaven's night: felt almost almost like a safe room, where time and space stop.
    • The hotel: great shining vibes.
    • The sound design: perfect, makes you feel costant terror even for things that are not actually there. The strange noises coming from the darknes in the prison's yard will hunt me.
    • ... The soundtrack: no comments needed.
    • Multiple finales: i got the leave ending, which i felt satisfied with, but also the others (which i looked up online) are great, especially the Maria ending. I like that they are not "canon vs not canon", but that every finale adds something to the story and characters, and offers different readings.

Of course every other aspect regarding the story, the atmosphere, the creatures and the characters to me is just perfect, but these are the ones that I'll remember the most.

Now I'm even more disappointed by the attitude of Konami towards Silent Hills... and if you have any suggestions about how I should procede in my exploration of this saga, please tell me! I'm thinking about SH3

Why do some people want SH2 and 3 to get remade? I don't get it at all.

    Posted: 22 May 2020 04:05 AM PDT

Why do you want to get a remake of something that is literally perfect and why do you want it to be remade in the RE2 and 3 remake route? New faces and voice actors with over the shoulder view may work for RE but SH is so much different from its artisitc style. A remake of those games would only work if it gets made by Team Silent with an improved gameplay version of SH3 with the exact same old voices of those games. I can't imagine SH2 and 3 with OTS gameplay and different voices cough SH HD Collection cough. Also can you really imagine to play as a version of James Sunderland that doesn't look like Guy Cihi at all or as a completely different Heather? I sure can not.

Silent Hill 2 is structured so perfectly

    Posted: 21 May 2020 09:02 PM PDT

I've played Silent Hill 2 again today and played it from start to finish (because it was so good) and seems to kinda notice just now the flow of the game going from point A to point B it has a great pacing although the first half starts off really slow the second half is where shit starts to hit the fan once you get to historical society all the dread, uneasiness and fear of the unknown ramps up and never stops till the end I think it's also one of the reasons why SH2 is praised so much by many because not only the story is great the game itself is structured in a way where you feel like you're reading a novel or a book and I think it contributes to game and how people called it a work of art.Truly Amazing!!!

Finished Silent Hill 4: The Room- my feelings

    Posted: 22 May 2020 09:45 AM PDT

    Hello guys,

Because I shared my feelings here when I beat the others Silnet Hills

(Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3)

Maybe you will have nothing against when I will share my feelings about the fourth.

Also as usual, I would like to share my statistics: https://imgur.com/He6cjBF

As I understand, the Silent Hill fans are divided when it comes to SH4. Some think it's absolutely the best in the series, the masterpiece, the top-notch. And others who think it's the worse, the weakes and such.

I understand the both positions, and unfortunately I belong in the group who thinks it's the worst :D Sorry.

First, let me say what is great about the game:

Story - I love the story and it's connection to the first Silent Hill. I think Walter Sullivan was pretty complex character and when I think about it, he wasn't evil, just hurt and sad. I loved the story was told mostly via letters. It's probably the second best story after SH2.

Horror - It was the scariest Silent Hill probably. Not only dark and gloomy and spooky, but also kinda mind-fuc*ery. Like I noticed the floating human face outside from the windows and I was like "What?" and I went closer to the window to check it, but it was gone. And then I was convinced it wasn't there and I was just imaged it. Too bad it was there again later, so then I knew it was real (really in the game and not in my head lol). There was so many crazy moments that really got into my head.

Huntings - This was kinda good idea in my opinion and it made the game interesting. Your aparment is your home. The place you suppose to feel safe. The place you can refill your health, save the game and store your stuff. How then it's taken from you. Suddenly you can't refill your health (only with medicine) and then it's full of ghosts. The concept it interesting.

Now the things that I absolutely hated:

Huntings again - They got annoying later. For example when you see a ghost coming from the wall, it's scary for the first time and intersting. But when it happens for the five time, you're annoyed like "here is goes again". And later there weren't enough candles and medaillons, so it felt unfair and I didn't have anything to get rid of wall-cracks and the mad chair.

Ghosts - Well ghosts worked good as a horror mechanism, but for the game itself were annoying as hell. And it ruined the game for me kinda, because I love the detective approach. You know - checking every nook and cranny, searching all the places, read all diaries and memos, collecting all things. But ghosts forced me just run through many places, ignoring everything there. And I didn't enjoyed it then.

Eileen - Not only it was annoying to wait for her everywhere and such, but also it ruined the horror for me a little bit, because when you're not alone, it's less scary and the feeling of isolation and loneliness is gone.

Walter chasing me, being invulnerable - Extremely annoying, unfair and sometimes he took me like half of my HPs when I was just passing him. Why did the authors think this is a good idea? It ruined the detective approach as the ghosts, and it ruined the horror again, because Walter was some sort of mystery and lovercraftian unknown. It was creepy to see him in the peephole or hear his voice in the telephone. But it was not scary to meet him in person like some cowboy with revolvers, laughing and shooting like insane.

All in all I must say Silent Hill 4 has some really great and original ideas but also some really bad ideas that kinda ruined the joy for me. Anyway I am really glad I finally finished all 4 games and I hope you enjoyed reading this :)

Now I wonder if they are others SH games that are worth to play (sometimes the fans seem to like only the 4 for some reason).

    Also..... it's bread.
