James's new voice acting in the HD collection fucking sucks (in my opinion)

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 10:52 AM PDT

    It ruins his character.

In the original, he sounded kind of lost and... dopey, I guess you could put it? Like, he sounded detatched, confused, nonthreatning.

And then in the remake he sounds like every action/horror movie tough-guy protagonist and it... just ruins him.

    I'm glad they had an option for the original VA in the HD collection. I feel bad I couldn't get a copy of the original. ;–;

silent hill 4 is just f*cking great at what it does with horror - and should be seen as an example for future installments

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 07:43 PM PDT

we kinda know that, over the course of the years, the fourth game in the franchise has had it's fair share of criticism and, to some extent, some redemption. but what i think it's actually not said nearly enough is how brave and innovative it is in regarding of it's approach to horror, specially in the franchise's context.

i think the developers of the supposed new game should really look up to silent hill 4 in terms of saying "fuck you" to the conventions and just go wild - without losing touch of what makes silent hill... well, silent hill.

"the room" was so great on twisting and bending conventions, narrative structure and in the way it COMPLETELY disarms the player, stripping every single sense of being "safe" throughout it's run and being unapologetically terrifying. it's connections to the original games are scattered but completely justified and earned - and it actually encourages the player to view this as it's own beast.

i know it has it's fair share of problems (clunky gameplay, frustrating segments), but i honestly think silent hill 4: the room is one of the most daring, innovative and surreal gaming experiences out there - and in my opinion, exactly what the franchise needs right now. enough trying to replicate the James Sunderland route. enough trying to make silent hill 2 over and over again. developers should be allowed to be bold and go wild, and it would be so freaking cool to see and feel this kind of twisted passion again!

i just needed to get this out of my chest, it's probably the excitement AND the anxiety regarding tomorrow's (probable) announcement... and i've being playing silent hill 4 all over again :)

sorry for the bad english greetings from brazil ❤️👻

Playing RE1 for the first time as an adult, and seeing the inspirations for Silent Hill

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 11:52 AM PDT

Resident Evil 1 always kind of put me off as a kid. (Naturally!) I was too scared, didn't know what the hell was going on. Hated having to stop and shoot things that would no doubt kill me in a small closet. Didn't understand all of the symbolism. Just thought it was a cool Zombie game.

Playing it now after having beat Silent Hill 1, 2, & 3 this past year is such a different experience. I'm way more invested in the story, and the puzzles. The vague mysteries and so forth. Now I bet you're wondering what this has to do with Silent Hill.

The framework RE1 laid down, set it all up for SH. They were able to expand on the greater mysteries and the fear of the unknown. They knew what made RE1 so good: its vagueness. The tension built by the scarcity of items, lack of inventory, broken door handles, locked doors, crooked paintings, sirens drenched in reverb and more. They took all of that, and dialed it up to hell in a wheelbarrow.

Instead of making it about the world going crazy, they made it about the character going crazy. That's such a unique twist, despite how simple it would be to dismiss it as a ripoff. RE1 is definitely worth checking out if you haven't played it, the remaster uses old Gamecube files, but the lighting is updated and so are many of the models. I love it so far! Let me know what you think, about both series and how they play off each other. Thanks for reading.

So regarding a new silent hill game

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 12:57 PM PDT

Tomorrow is the ps5 event, as we by now know there are rumours that we might see a new installment in the series. Obviously we should have low to zero expectations to avoid (major) dissapointments but i do like to know what you would like to see in a new game.

'IF' we'll get a new silent hill, wether we'll see it tomorrow or somewhere in the (near) future, wether it's a sequel or (soft) reboot...is anyone else looking forward to a new female main character?

Silent Hill 3 on PC is a must play

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 10:24 AM PDT

I've just recently fired up this baby for the first time in years after playing through SH3 on PS2 and when i say this game in higher resolution and better frame rates, STILL HOLDS UP TO THIS DAY. How on earth did they achieve this in 2003??? https://imgur.com/HSysH9A https://imgur.com/GHiumF6 https://imgur.com/aUZTTdZ https://imgur.com/fPd7U41

    Henry Mason

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 09:49 AM PDT

Harry Mason isn't a strong man for facing the town of silent hill, it's monsters, demons, people, and other godly horrors. He's strong for having the ability to raise the same girl twice.

    I had a dream...

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 05:47 PM PDT

I can definitely say to a degree that it's Silent Hill related, because I remember walking outside and it was foggy ASF. It was such a vivid dream that felt almost real. I was walking with someone down a really foggy road in the dream, and I just felt like I should share the story because the road and the fog was so peaceful, oddly enough...

Mini-Theory: Brookhaven's basement is one of the most cursed places in all of Silent Hill. And the town went out of its way to keep James and Heather from running into its monster

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 07:11 AM PDT

Both James and Heather have to go here as part of their journeys. Both get hints that this is a particularly dark place: James reads the account of the terrified patient who was locked in the basement's basement. And Heather sees a trail of blood leading to the doors of the elevator riddled with submachine-gun bullet holes, apparently to no effect... whatever lurks there, the SMG, the deadliest firearm in the game, did NOTHING to it.

But you might remember that we don't run into anything when we actually go here.

My theory is that "the town" purposefully kept them away from whatever it is that lurks there, precisely because it is so dangerous: James only hears an extremely weird noise from around the corner, but the town conveniently bars the way with a fence. And Heather conveniently arrives only after the monster or whatever lurks there is done with whoever the SMG's owner was (in fact, just shortly after, judging from the still spinning wheelchair's wheel), and so, maybe it's been "pacified" for a while. This way, Heather can explore the place a bit, and get her items.

So in conclusion, both James and Heather could have been "protected" by the town itself, because they (especially James) would have stood no chance if they ran into whatever lurks in that basement

Japan Only Silent Hill Book (2003)

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 03:05 PM PDT

So only the older fans will remember this because it was after SH3 was release way back in 2003.

In Japan they released a book with really cool information on the first three games.

There was a website that had a PDF version of this that had been translated to English but I can't find it.

    Does anyone remember this?
