    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 05:08 PM PDT

    Hey everyone,

Like a lot of others here I'm a new fan of the series since the release of the DLC for dead by daylight (great game!). Just thought I'd let it be known for anyone else that's interesting in playing the games like I am that the HD Collection is on sale through Xbox live digitally for $7.49 at the moment. Happy gaming!

Dead by Daylight | Silent Hill | Art & Design Behind the Scenes

Shattered Memories deserves more love — and should be a model for future game storytelling

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 07:13 AM PDT

I don't understand why people don't like Shattered Memories! Yes, it was very different for a Silent Hill game, but it was incredibly in terms of daring to subvert the franchise—from the ice-y Otherworld being the first true "different" otherworld aesthetic, to taking the plot of Stranded Silent Hill-er Searching For Their Loved One and completely subverting that at the ending. It's the only SH game outside of SH2 and 3 to make me cry legit tears at the end, and the storytelling of discovering details about Cheryl's life before it's revealed that Cheryl is the protagonist and she is imagining the events was stunning. And it also adds a great level of replay value—wanting to change up choices in the game and just re-examine how details of Cheryl's life changes throughout.

People say it didn't need to be a Silent Hill game or a SH1 re-imagining, but the fact that it was a re-imagining of the first game was essential to subverting the first game's plot and introducing what a Silent Hill could look like in an alternate universe. The game is beautiful because it's basically the same formula as Silent Hill 2's Born From a Wish (which I hope everyone has played), wherein you play as a "Maria" figure slowly discovering she is a Maria figure. That is completely fascinating and it's a territory no Silent Hill game has explored since SH2. I'm frustrated with every post-SH4 game recycling the "looking for a loved one" trope, and SH: SM knowingly dives into this trope while subverting it at the last moment.

Shattered Memories also demonstrates something that made the Team Silent games so amazing and something that characterizes the series as a whole—at the end of the day, Silent Hill really IS about facing demons (internally and externally) to be reunited with your loved one. Each primary relationship in the games is about this (Cheryl and Harry; James and Mary; Heather and Harry and later her quest for vengeance), and no other Survival Horror series does this as well (except Fatal Frame).

I just wish it had been a game set in the existing Silent Hill canon and extended the game's mythology. I also think that it could have been more fleshed out, more scary, had actual combat and level variety, that characters had actual arcs, etc. These things make it lackluster, but had it had all of the above, it definitely would have been a contender for one of the best Silent Hill games ever (it still is IMHO).

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 12:36 PM PDT

According to silent hill wiki The Order wants to bring the apocalypse to recreate the world in a painfull way and bring heaven on earth.Do they really wanna do that or they are lying and wanna destroy the world instead or something else?

    Silent Hill 2, 3, & 4 PC Appreciation Post

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 12:28 PM PDT

First off, I would like to question: Why would they stop making PC ports after 4 (With the exception of Homecoming)? While I know way back when in 2002 when they ported SH2 to PC, it was a way more smaller audience for the platform. Even with the abundance of technical issues, I think the effort to push these three games to PC has future-proofed them leagues above many other entries simply because of the fan support behind the games.

Silent Hill 2 has received dramatic improvements because of fan modding and enhancements. I would even say that the PC version is now the definitive version to play. While it might not have the vintage appeal of playing the ps2 version on a CRT TV, I think fans have done an amazing job preserving the overall presentation of the game. When I played through this game again with high-quality noise-cancelling headphones, I heard so many strange background noises that I never caught when playing the game originally. It was so weird to discover new things in a game I played almost 20 years ago.

Silent Hill 3 remains creepy as ever, but with improved visual presentation, I can now appreciate the haunting art style without any technical hindrances.

Silent Hill 4, while nowhere near perfect, is a nice and welcome addition too. It sucks that 60fps patching makes combat unbearable and even arguably unplayable. I also hate the fact that they cut out half off the apartment hauntings. I have no clue as to why they would remove them in the first place. But, I think if you can get past those two things, when patched, the game becomes a viable option for those who don't own the consoles it supports.

Overall, I just wish the devs would have made the push for later entries to release on PC. I think Downpour's quality would significantly improve, as fanmade patches could make the game much more stable. It would be nice to have all Silent Hill titles be officially released for one platform (i.e. Steam) and allow new fans to have access to it without paying astronomical prices to get their hands on some of the older titles of the series.
