I made this edit of Chico for my Silent Hills Analysis video being released this month. I'm still surprised how they just recolored Chico, he actually looks creepy.

Let's rank the SH2 levels: Best to Worst

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 03:19 PM PDT

This is my personal opinion on the levels, from best to worst, in Silent Hill 2:

    - Wood Side Apartments: Had unsettling, claustrophobic atmosphere from the narrow hallways and memorable rooms, such as the butterfly room, pyramid head room, mannequin flashlight room, gun room, etc.

    - Brookhaven Hospital: We get the introduction of the iconic nurse, and the hospital also features more of the claustrophobic atmosphere seen in Wood Side Apartments. Also, who could forget the iconic pyramid head chase sequence?

    - The Labyrinth: Has some iconic moments, such as the jail cell encounter with Maria and the Hanging Men puzzle. Also, running into Pyramid Head by chance is terrifying. Then you finally have the fight with Eddie which is kind of a mess, but I don't think it's enough to take away from this level.

    - Outskirts of Silent Hill: The first sequence of the game has to be one of the most iconic openings I have ever experienced. The tension of walking through the forest trail to the cemetery and finally to the town itself really set the mood for what was to come.

    - Traversing Silent Hill: There are some cool sites to see, such as the Bowling Alley, Heaven's Night, and Neely's Bar. The traversal to get the wrench for Rosewater Park has to be one of the most terrifying sequences of the game because the whole town becomes dark after your visit at Brookhaven.

    - Lake View Hotel: This one didn't really do much for me. I thought it had some great ideas, such as leaving equipment in storage in order to take the employee elevator. The puzzle wasn't really so much a puzzle as it was a scavenger hunt. Obviously you get some of the best sequences since it is the endgame level, such as Maria's death by the two Pyramid Heads and Angela's staircase, but they are placed near the dead end of the level, which can be a huge slog if you get lost or confused.

    - Silent Hill Historical Society / The Prison: Pretty basic compared to the other levels, but you do get the iconic horn staircase scene between these two scenes.

    - Blue Creek Apartments: Just an inferior version of Wood Side Apartments, with the exception of housing the coin puzzle and first survival encounter with pyramid head.
