    here's my headcanon for the series, and silent hill's god: Samael is a psychic parasite, one that feeds off of the energy produced by human pain and suffering. Samael's ultimate goal is to be birthed into reality, where she can harvest the suffering of humanity, but needs people to summon her through a very complex incarnation ritual.

    this is why she never takes one concise form, as she is hell bent on manipulating people into summoning her and will take advantage of their subconscious fears and desires in order to do so. this is why she is a white robed godlike woman when dahlia gillespie summons her at the end of SH1. this is the vision of god that was used to manipulate the cult into summoning samael, and the illusion is broken when the aglaophotis is thrown. essentially, i think even dahlia has no idea what she is playing with, despite coming off as the knowledgeable priestess behind it all

    silent hill as a town has a strong supernatural history as evidenced in SH2, which makes me think that rather than the town itself being evil, it is just a point on earth where the barrier between realities is extremely weak. samael chose this place to incarnate because of this, and manipulated town members towards her will as she amassed more and more energy.

    of course, she was stopped by Harry at the end of SH1, so she is forced to bide her time and amass all her energy again, waiting until the circumstances are right for her to be reborn. since the town is super fucking haunted by this point, she doesn't have townspeople to suck psychic energy from and is forced to lure people in. she targets people with extreme traumas, as there's more potential suffering to be harvested. this period is SH2, and shows why Angela gets sucked in despite not being a bad person, just horrifically broken. james, eddie, and angela are simply 3 of hundreds, maybe thousands of people that vanished into the veil of silent hill while Samael amassed her powers in wait. at the end of SH2, james either kills himself and gives himself completely to the town, takes maria home to be psychically siphoned (wink) (but also not wink), or forgives himself and has nothing left for the town to take

    and then SH3 is when the time is right for Samael to strike, but Heather fucks her up and stops it for good(?). yaaaay!

    because of this explanation, i also think the scene with maria on the other side of the bars is probably the closest we get to seeing the REAL samael. the "are you mary?" "uh, i can be if you want me to be" dialog is Samael possessing Maria's form, straight up saying "i don't give a shit, whatever makes you suffer more. I'm hungry broe"

    So I just stumbled on this masterpiece that is Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition, and was so excited that I just HAD to add it on my Steam library... thing is, I couldn't find any custom files or backgrounds, so I created some myself.

    I'm looking for any article or post that condenses or gives an overview of the Silent Hill mythos instead of clicking through the SH wiki one-by-one. Something that lists all the known entities (e.g. Xuchilpaba, Valtiel, Lobsel Vith, Samael, Metatron), their relation to each other, every mention of them throughout the series, all that stuff.

    Playing Silent Hill HD Collection.

    I know little about the silent hill games and this will be my first time playing. While I would love to play the first silent hill, unfortunately I don't have the console for it. So I'm deciding to start at Silent Hill 2.

    I've heard that the HD collection isn't that good.

    Could someone tell me what to expect? (Like bugs, glitches, etc..) (Without spoilers?) (Xbox 360)
