No game had ever bleed into my dream like Silent Hill 4 had!

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 01:54 PM PST

Gaming has on occasion manifested in my dreams. I still remember a week before GTA:SA released I had a dream where I walked into an incredibly large shopping in the middle of nowhere to buy the game. But when it comes to nightmares, SH4 is the only one that has bled into my dreams.

One instance was being in a large deserted motorway with fog everywhere, and I was trying to find away to leave the world. As the dream progressed I found my self in an apartment complex with red walls and rust everywhere. In the dream
Walter Sullivan started following me. I remember in the dream feeling a great sense of fear and dread. I remember not matter I far I would run he kept keeping up.

Once in a blue mood, Walter Sullivan will appear in my dreams, following me, and my dream becomes a nightmare all over again.

What is the DNA of a Silent Hill game?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:18 PM PST

I've been thinking a lot about the state of the SH fanbase. Everyone is in this bizarre purgatory where the spirit of analysis persists, despite there literally being nothing new to analyze.

SH4 is a title that undoubtably existed in critical obscurity for years until PT reintroduced everyone to the idea of a more anthological approach to the series. SH4's strangeness and divergence from the previous narratives has come to be appreciated given the trend of people feeling everything following the title is just a rehash of previous ideas.

What is that brand identity to you though? Are the essentials just surreal architecture and monsters, since a lot of people feel that characters with troubled pasts will always only stand in SH2's shadow? Is Silent Hill more of a feeling, or an aesthetic?

The other three Silent Hill games also deserve justice just like the second game.

Just by playing SH2 the Enhanced Edition, I feel that the other three games also deserve the same treatment. It's unfair that the first, the third and fourth game are left out. I understand that a lot of people like SH2, but not everyone is in the same boat. I personally prefer the first game and the third because of the horror and mainly the first game's story because it's really good, though I agree that SH2 overshadows all when it comes to story telling.

I know that the first game never got released for PC, I did play it as an emulator for PC (not trough PCSX2 because I encounter a problem with the keyboard controls). The game hasn't aged well because of the PS1 graphics (though there is something really creepy when playing with those old graphics) and I do believe that this is the cause that majority of people even those new to SH, refuse to play the first game. I think someone should do a good emulation for the first game if it's possible to do so.

The third and fourth game have serious issues from what I've read. I know that there are some fixes to apply but those fixes cause major issues. I just started the third game and I can confirm there are a lot of problems and it's the thing that keeps me from playing it.

All in all what I'm trying to say is that all rest of the 3 games should be playable, especially on PC and if there's someone out there that would make Enhanced Editions, it would be amazing. I know that the SH games were specifically made for the PS2 and took advantage of that single hardware, but PC's have always outnumbered consoles and if a serious port was ever made they would've been dope on the PC.

I do not have any hopes for Konami releasing remastered versions of any of the 4 games on PC and if they did in the slightest chance it would be a cash grab. With that in mind, we should not be hoping for a Remake of the first game, since there's more money from Pachinko machines instead of some PC game franchise. It's all left on the community to continue to support the games with patches and fixes. The only hope for the SH franchise is if Konami sold the rights to someone else. Even EA who was declared the worst company, still supports old games like the C&C franchise (I'm a big fan of those) and even the first game gets a remaster.

Ive been researching what happened between konami and hideo kojima

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 05:47 AM PST

I suggest you hit up youtube if you want to know exactly what happened between konami and hideo. For those who do know i think its a sad story about money and the decision to gear the company away from making console games toward mobile and slot machines. Imo i think konami should either give the rights to kojima or capcom so they can continue the legacy that was and is silent hill. Since pt came and left there is a huge fan base for more games and hopefully get back to its roots.
