Who the hell thought it was a good idea to stack boxes like this!? Truly disturbing.

What locations do you think could be very creepy or interesting in a new Silent Hill title?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 08:49 AM PST

    Returning:

Hospitals, subways, prisons, and apartments are very common throughout the series, but one location I would like to see revisited is the Lakeside amusement park. I've always loved theme parks, and I think they're always very fun and interesting in horror media.

The mall from Silent Hill 3.

New locations that I think could be very cool or disturbing:

    • An abandoned movie theater or drama theatre.

    • a stadium or sports arena. The main arena, crowd seats, VIP rooms, and basements could make for a very unique kind of horror setting.

    • mansion in the middle of a swamp, desert or forest. I can imagine something similar to the "hauntings" in Silent Hill 4 happening here.

    • abandoned military base. I could see monsters that look like some sort of unholy fusion of flesh, weaponry, and machinery being here. As well as ghosts of victims of war. This is the kind of stuff I imagine SH Homecoming would do if it used the "war veteran with PTSD" concept to its full potential

    • an aquarium. This could be a good opportunity to play with thalassophobia, as the ocean can be very horrifying and mysterious

    • a farm. Vast rows of cornfields, where you can hear things moving, but can't quite see where they are, inducing paranoia. Things that look like scarecrows, but not quite, that you swore you saw moving a second ago. Creepy barns and country houses in the middle of nowhere, with forests of tall, leaveless trees and empty, desolate highways nearby.

    • I'm not quite sure how they could work this out, but a beach resort could be interesting. I think that tropical settings have a lot of understated potential for horror. The same goes for a cruise ship setting.

    • rather than a full amusement park, perhaps a carnival, or state fair, with a more rural environment.

    • a mountain resort or ski lodge

    • underground caverns (like in the movie The Descent)

Jesus Christ, Silent Hill 3's opening Shopping Mall level is the most intense and terrifying opening of possibly any survival horror game I've ever played.

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 02:37 PM PST

No reason it took me years to play this game, I remember trying it out in 2005 and was like, I can't handle this, I'm hearing too much scary shit off screen to emotionally cope with moving forward, so much stress! Oh christ why is there howling!? Just leave me alone! And so many enemies are introduced in the opening Shopping Mall level, the numb body, Closer, Pendulum and the god damn dogs! At least with SH2 it was just the lying figures and cockroaches for the first portion, fair play to Team Silent for making sure you knew this was very different beast all together. Still to this day, it's disturbing and intense as all hell. My only saving grace, it's pretty easy to run by them, but still, my fitbit thinks I'm doing a run with the heart rate spike 😂

First time playing Silent Hill 4 - underrated gem??

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 05:11 PM PST

I see a lot of hate regarding this title. Never played SH4 before.
The enemies are absolutely relentless in this SH's Hard setting. I love it. I also find it one of the most stressful ones. The balance between sound design, strong OP creatures and more restricitive gameplay mechanics (inventory size, saving only at apartment) is so damn oppressive. I'll go ahead and say this is one of the scariest SH games and I'm not even 1 hour into it yet (just got back into the apartment after Cynthia's death scene) , and I've played every single one except Homecoming (which I cant get it to work on my PC) and Downpour (which I'll get around to after finishing all SH games on Hard). Indeed it differs from the first 3 but I'm super impressed so far.
Also... any tips?? Those wall cucks destroyed me on the subway

What would everyone here think of a silent hill game set in the town's past?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 11:14 AM PST

Im thinking a game based around the witch trials, the multiple devastating plagues, or the inhuman military prison colony

Obviously it would be a departure but I think at this point they may as well do something new and out there because the series is stagnent and dead anyways

I think a horror period piece similar in tone to the films the witch or the lighthouse would be awesome. The old untamed horror.

I know the town wasnt really full swing cursed yet but theres still a lot of potential for psychological trama, human inflicted horrors, and general paranormal forces caused by the "power" the land has

    Doghouse

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 04:55 PM PST

I think that the Dog is supposed to represent Cerberus guarding the underworld as this is the place where the eclipse door is and where we enter the other world. If I am not mistaken the Dog is also found in three pieces in three different locations. (Basketball hoop, ally, and the doghouse itself has a pool of blood.) Kind of random but the doghouse has been a mystery to me. Think it is more then just something meant to spook you since it is before such a pivotal moment in the game.

Help with the trap door at the Toluca Prison

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 03:59 PM PST

I'm sure a lot of people here have played the King of Horror Games, Silent Hill 2, and got to the part where they have to open the trap door at Toluca Prison after getting the horseshoe, lighter, and wax doll. And I, who have played Silent Hill 2 like in 2018, have no clue what to do. Does anyone know what I need to do to get that trap door open?

What's the deal with Guy Cihi?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 02:38 AM PST

All I know is that he voiced James Sunderland in Silent Hill 2. Why is he more popular than the other voice actors/actresses that has worked for the series? I see his name gets mention here and there on this Reddit forum - both positively and negatively.

Cihi has more than a few videos reenacting and interviewing about Silent Hill pretty recently. Was he interacting with SH like this in 2001? I get the feeling that Guy is only talking about Silent Hill to pander to its new internet era fan-base that has hugely grown since PT cancellation. If someone could chime me in

Weird question, but I gotta ask

What do you think the other world smells like? Must? Sewage? Old meat that's gone bad? Rust? Nothing at all?

    I don't understand Silent Hill 4.

    Posted: 16 Feb 2020 09:07 PM PST

Doing my first playthrough of the entire series. Got up to about 3/4 of the way through SH4 and put down my controller and uninstalled the game. Everything about it just felt horrible compared to the first 3. Moving on to Origins right now.

I seriously can't wrap my head around why people like this game. The controls are clunky, the level design is boring, the backtracking is tedious (although there was some backtracking in the first 3, I didn't mind it too much because the level design was great), the inventory management is god awful, and don't even get me started on Eileen. I have never cared less for a character and when I found out that literally the entire second half of the game is an escort mission I threw in the towel.

However, I did enjoy the atmosphere in the apartment and I did enjoy the mystery within the game. Finding out that the game was about Walter Sullivan made me really excited, knowing the history of him as a character. Also that main menu music is great, loved it. I'll be watching the rest of the game on YouTube so I can still get the story, but man I cannot even consider dragging myself through another minute of that game.

Could somebody please try to shed some light on why they like it? It just feels like a majorrrrr fucking setback in the series.
