Let me try to explain what is wrong with the new voice acting in the HD Collection Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:36 PM PDT The problem with the new voices is that they sound like they lack direction. From a technical perspective, the voice actors did a fine job. This is to be expected, because they're all very experienced voice actors. But it sounds like they didn't receive proper direction for the scenes they were voicing. There are two main types of acting direction: realistic and animated. Animated acting is what you would expect from a theatrical performance or a sitcom. The actor exaggerates emotions, expressions and movements to convey themselves clearly. On the other hand, a realistic performance is more subtle and nuanced. The audience has to carefully study and analyze the characters' tone, expression, and mannerisms in order to fully understand them. This is the kind of direction you would expect from a more artistically based work. Although this makes a scene more natural and perhaps more immersive, you run the risk of making your characters appear flat, and it is much easier to analyze someone in person than it is on a screen. This comparison of directions extends to voice acting. The voices and movement for most animations are, well, very animated. It is even harder to convey subtle and natural emotions without real faces, so character movement is usually very exaggerated, with voices to match it. That being said, there are many animations that take a more natural approach in their direction, such as Evangelion. There are still some very "animated" scenes (like Misato's compulsion to scream after drinking beer), but many of the serious character building scenes are very subtle and nuanced. Silent Hill takes the realistic, natural approach. Although there are some wacky characters like Vincent and Dahlia, their tone and composure still feels natural, albeit unusual. The dialogue can seem very awkward and foggy at times, especially in 2. This is realistic. Especially James' meeting with Angela. These are two mentally unwell people who really aren't looking to run into strangers. They awkwardly make pleasant small talk, enough to be polite, and then go on their way. Both of them are incredibly distracted. Now I realize that Guy Cihi and Heather Morris aren't masterful actors, but they're not bad either. Some of their deliveries could sound a bit more natural and less forced, but their tone is right for the scene. Now let's look at the new voices. These are all popular voice actors that come from anime backgrounds. Their usual direction is very animated, pretty much the opposite of Silent Hill. I'm sure that they could have done just fine, if only they knew what they should have been doing. It sounds to me like they didn't understand their characters at all, nor their relationship with other characters, nor the tone of the scene. If you look at the scene where James meets Angela, it almost sounds like they know each other. I believe that they made up their characters' personalities as they went, and just did the best that they could, based on what they believed their character should sound like without having any knowledge of their actual personality or history. I think James is probably the best example for this. He's voiced by Troy Baker, who often voices very manly or confident characters. He made James sound like an amalgamation of these kind of characters, a generic hero character if you will. He almost sounds like he's going to try to sweep Angela off her feet! So the new voices aren't "bad", just bad for their games. Most importantly, it's bad enough to ruin the experience. [link] [comments]
I played through Silent hill 3 Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:15 PM PDT Here we go again Let's start with the fact that this game looks so much better than the second or the games in that time in general. The faces and the movement is very smooth. I played it on an original ps2 fat PAL with an AV input and it looked really nice. The combat changed, you could have a west, or a silencer or a huge mace a katana even. Huge vareity I like that, the game had a taser which made some enemies super easy to counter. And the combat in general changed now I can do thrust attacks. Or "combo" like hits. The protagonist felt really releatable to me. Even basic things like save point symboles were questioned through the game. She didn't just sit there and took everything in. I'll keep this spoiler free so noone will lose the feeling this story gives. The ending was the greatest ending silent hill could get in my opinion. I really liked the whole aspect of revisiting this cult story line. Yeah James's story was "deeper" in a sense of psychological story but this felt more silent hill like in a sense. I don't know how should I put it. Honestly the characters were really good. They felt like the feelings a normal human being has but separated into many characters which is really cool in my opinion. I really like the replayability of this game. I could go back into it again right now (but persona 5 royal) abd still feel that fresh feeling this game holds. The music was great too. This was the first silent hill game that I seeked the original OST after playing it through. It has that soft but still punching rock style. And I really liked it I will give a chance to the other games when I can of course, but judging by the reviews maybe silent hill 4 be good too and I heard shattered memories is a hit or miss to many people... we'll see [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Mar 2020 02:47 PM PDT I was at the point of getting out of midwich elementary. The last puzzle I remember doing was the ball in the pipe puzzle. But I lost all my save data and I was looking on playing it today. Does anybody possibly have a save file that's at midwich or after midwich elementary. [link] [comments]
Couldn't the games become novels? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 06:53 AM PDT It's good to read. It might have some illustrations of monsters and characters. Maybe the first four games deserves good ones. [link] [comments]
Out of the games you've played which one did you like the most/least and why? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 02:14 PM PDT My least favorite was Silent Hill 4 (I don't think It's a bad game It just has some things that I personally don't like): Undead enemies: I should first say that I LOVE the design of ghosts in sh4, just the way they float with their legs bent up and the sound they make is so surreal and creepy. They are probably my favorite enemies in all the SH4 games that I've played. The only thing I don't like about them is that they can't actually die, this might add to the challenge for some people but I personally want to feel the satisfaction of clearing out a room. Plus it gets frustrating when trying to solve puzzles. Its puzzles: The puzzles in SH4 consist of just carrying things from point A to point B, there are no doors with different puzzles like in the first SH (which had the best puzzles in my opinion) Unfair inventory: Team silent was clearly trying to replicate the Resident Evil mechanic with the chest but at least there you could carry 150 handgun bullets in one slot, in sh4 you can only carry 12 plus all the items you need to progress in the story Structure: There is not a lot of exploration involved in sh4. Unlike the rest of the games where you could explore the town, sh4 is structured in levels like Super Mario World Doesn't get you emotionally attached with any character: The other games made you connect with characters like Cybil, Lisa, Angela, Eddie and others. Sh4 barely has any cutscenes, the characters stick around for the level and then they die. The other characters that do stick around throughout the whole game cannot interact with you. You can only peak at them. And now for my favorite sh game Silent Hill: Origins Huge variety in weapons: You can use pretty much anything in this game as a weapon. Just grab a typewriter and satisfyingly bash it on the enemies heads. It also has a huge variety of firearms which is perfect for me. This variety kinda reminded me of Fallout 3/NV which are my favorite games of all time Did a better job at scaring me: It just has a way of building up tension and leaving you unnerved. For example there is a cash register in a store in the game with a bill sticking out which has these words written on it: "Here come a candle to light you to bed, here comes the butcher to chop of your head". You find this WAY before you fight the butcher or even see what he looks like. It just gets you nervous and excited before fighting a boss Giant enemies: I am a big fan of Lovecraftian horror, seeing Lovecraft-like creatures in SH was such a treat. Of course SH is focused around gods and cosmic horror but usually these are reference or final bosses at best. Origins had these big intimidating creatures that were hidden in the fog and gave off a truly lovecraftian feel [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Mar 2020 01:03 PM PDT All, Anyone with technical music acumen know how to / have successfully recreated the Silent Hill 2 item noise? It's one of the most memorable video game sounds to me ever. https://www.myinstants.com/instant/silent-hill-2-receiving-item/ What kind of synth patch is this? I have some experience in this area as a musician and producer, but cannot figure this one out. Thanks for any help or ideas! [link] [comments]
How do you prefer to play Silent Hill games? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 12:06 AM PDT I've always been curious about how other fans play the games. Do you have any preferences? Do you only play in the dark, or do you need a light? Are there any other things you do to truly immerse yourself in the game? Personally, I have to play in the dark by myself. Though it's embarrassing to admit, I can't stand to play more than an hour or two at a time because the classic games are way too stressful! Even when I know what is going to happen, it's way too tense to handle! [link] [comments] |
