[NO SPOILERS] I'm enjoying 3 a lot more than 2 Posted: 25 Nov 2020 10:34 AM PST Don't get me wrong, 2 has a legit 10/10 story and the gameplay isn't bad for an almost 20 year game. The thing is, this game has been so hyped that I personally found that the story was just as good as I expected. It was really good but I also expected it to be really good, so when I finished I was just like "Ehh, noice." 3 on the otherhand has much more of an "excitement factor" to it. It doesn't take long for the game to start being scary and it never lets up. I'm actually surprised by just how scary this game is, considering it came out in 2003. As a horror title, I think it's much more consistent with it's scares than even modern horror games like Outlast or Alien: Isolation. I feel like when I was playing 2, I was only really moving forward for the story. The game wasn't boring but it also wasn't particularly exciting? That was intentional I'm sure, so the game could tell the story it wanted to tell but 3 feels a lot more fast paced and genuinely terrifying. Also, Heather is a great protagonist. It's not really fair to compare her to James but if you do, I think Heather is much more of an enjoyable character. James is kind of just your standard game protagonist. He has a fairly neutral response to everything that's going on. Heather actually comes across as a real character, and I love that we see her emotions so much throughout the story. Speaking of story, I've often heard that 3's story is pretty derivative. I'm only about halfway through the game I think? I just got off the subway and I think we've arrived in Silent Hill (No spoilers please). I feel like I can guess the plot. I already had it spoiled that Heather is Cheryl from the first game. I'm assuming that The Order is trying to use her to summon another deity? It's definitely more by the numbers but I really like stuff dealing with cults and the supernatural, so I really don't mind. As a huge horror fan, this is easily one of my favorite horror games, but it also might be one of my favorite games I've ever played. TL;dr - 2 was great but after all the hype, I wasn't that surprised by how good it was. 3 has been a huge treat, with the game being much scarier and funner to play, as well as having a great protagonist in Heather. Visage. An Horrifying homage to P.T and The Room. Posted: 25 Nov 2020 07:52 AM PST I've been a long time silent hill fan. I've been following the development for Visage, since it was announced after P.T. Its been on PC for a while and it FINALLY came out on Xbox. I played Chapter 1 yesterday and I can say for a fact this game is seriously one of the most terrifying claustrophobic experiences I've ever played. I will continue through it but I thought yall might like my opinion. It might wet your whistles while of course we all wait for a new Silent Hill game to come out. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Nov 2020 04:46 AM PST Just started playing this one on the PSP. I am suprised that it is actually good. The Western development team behind it really managed to catch the magic Silent Hill 2 had for me on alot of levels. And overall it is beter so far as all the post Team-Silent games and in my opinion even better then silent hill 4. I have not finished it yet but if you have not played it i definitly recommend it so far.the otherworld mechanic with the mirrors is great. Downsides are the overwhelming amount of weapons there are and that you can carry. Also some safe game spots are badly placed meaning you can lose significant progress when u die. The enemy design is also something that i have mixed feelings on. Some are great. Others are hilarious overexegerations and make me smile instead of feeling fear. But so far nothing game breaking. The game is also an impressive technical feat. Seeing that the hardware the game needed to run on even back in 2007 on the PSP was pretty limited, it still runs at 60 FPS and manages to push visuals that come pretty close to Silent Hill 2. For their first try at a Silent hill game Climax studios did great with the limited technical tools they needed to work with and still deliver a game close to the same quality as its older console brethren, and surpassing all of the ones that came after it. Looking into snag a copy of SH2 before prices get even worse. Should I go Xbox or Ps2? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 08:16 PM PST Hello! First off I've played almost all the way through Silent Hill 2 on PS2 black label until my disk drive and the condition of my disk gave out. I'm looking to get another copy of it, I could either get the Xbox version complete or get the ps2 GH version loose. Ive done some research and I know the trade offs between the two. The 480i of the ps2 doesn't bother me. But I'd like to know if the Xbox versions stuttering and poor fmv quality is really detrimental enough to the expirence to make shelling out the extra bucks for the ps2 version worth it. Thanks so much! [link] [comments]

To those that are looking for a game similar to Silent Hill 2: Check out Pathologic 2! Posted: 25 Nov 2020 02:01 PM PST (Pathologic 1 & 2 are on sale on steam, btw!) To start off, Pathologic is a 2005 Russian survival/psychological horror game developed by Ice-Pick Lodge, and since there have been a few posts around here asking if there are other game out there that feel like SH2, I couldn't help but recommend this hidden gem! Last year, a remake/reimagining of the first game was released under the name Pathologic 2. And it flew under the radar for many (thanks to the lack of marketing by the publisher). Basically the story of Pathologic 2 revolves around a surgeon, Artemy Burakh, who returns to his hometown - a remote town in the Russian steppe, full of strange myths/tradition and stranger people - after he receives a disturbing letter from his father. Things take a turn for the worst when you learn that the town has been overtaken by a plague, which is called The Sand Pest. Yes, the antagonist of the game is a goddamn plague. There's no way you can fight it. You cannot kill it. And that's what elevates the game into a different type of horror. The game's atmosphere is absolutely dreadful, and the people you meet are well-written, and hardly fall into any character trope. They hide certain information from you, and other characters, like the three ruling families of the town, don't really care/believe that there is a plague because they have their own agenda. The narrative is sublime, yet the gameplay is unforgivable (but all the better for it because of the sole reason for you to be 1000% immersed into what your character's going through!). I cannot share much about the game to veer away from spoilers. It's an all-around must-play game for SH fans. TL;DR: Pathologic 2, a remake of the first game, is an absolute must-play if you're itching for games akin to SH2. It shares the same eerie atmosphere, a town full of secrets, strange characters that conceal important information from you, disturbing themes, and uhhh.... fog. [link] [comments]
