(English Version) Silent Hill Movie’s Director Christophe Gans announces a third film.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 01:46 PM PST

I asked a bit over a year ago, Should Silent Hill get a remake? To celebrate 21 years of Silent Hill, I ask it again.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 06:05 PM PST

What do you think the third film will be about?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 02:33 PM PST

I think it would be fair to rule out a direct sequel to Revelation. Don't think anyone's asking for that.

Not so sure they'd do a SH2 adaptation either like Gans always wanted since that is a bit too ballsy, and I can imagine really negative fan reactions from the get-go. Also several other reasons why I don't really see this happening.

As soon as I read Gans' interview I assumed that it could be a sequel to the first one that ignores Revelation, but I guess that's far fetched as well.

Not expecting any post-SH3 games to be adapted.

So pretty much it's mostly likely going to be either a brand new entirely original story (which is a good idea), or something like a mishmash of multiple games (like what the first movie was basically). I think what's by far the most likely is an original story technically set within the universe of the previous films that maybe lightly references the first film.

Gans mentioned puritanism in the interview so I'm guessing this means the cult element will be back (which is also another reason why I doubt he's adapting SH2).

What would you like to see in a new SH protagonist?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 01:22 AM PST

If the rumours are true and we're really getting a new game, I was wondering what kind of character people would like a new protagonist to be?

What kind of personality traits, attitude etc?

Brave? Fearful? Smart/rational or clueless/impulsive? Serious or smart-arse?

Perhaps another female lead? So far we only have Heather, and those are certainly some very big, brown boots to fill.

    Thoughts?

A few questions about emulation and etc.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 08:03 AM PST

I've recently got a controller and am looking foward to play some silent hill games i haven't played yet, so:

Is there a guide online on how to run Silent Hill 1 in 1080p?

Is there anyway to emulate the wii version of Shattered Memories (also 1080p) with mouse and keyboard?

Is it possible to play the pc version of Silent Hill 4 with a controller? i thought the controls on pc were very bad, but im sure it will be better with a controler.

Angela from Silent Hill 2 is Laura Palmer (Twin Peaks) mixed with Mallory (Natural Born Killers)

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 08:45 PM PST

I know Silent Hill 2 has a bunch of influences, but I've been thinking about how it seems pretty clear that Angela is based primarily on two sources - the personality of Laura Palmer, specifically in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, and the physical appearance of Mallory from Natural Born Killers. Both films came out within two years of each other as well. You can check out two videos below that show examples -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkBwPrXI5fE&t=74s - Laura talking to James in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

2:42 - Notice how Laura shifts from a bitter and sarcastic tone earlier into the video, and here shifts into a baby like voice when she says "Bobby killed a guy", or "Do you wanna see?". The way she talks seems incredibly similar to the way Angela shifts between a sort of dreamy, baby-like way of talking, and a bitter and sarcastic tone. The fact that Laura is far from sober in the scene would also make sense as an influence for Angela's disconnected way of talking.

Those are specific details, but it's also worth noting that even though Angela was acted by an adult, she was written as a teenager. Laura Palmer is a teenager who is spending the film processing that she is being sexually abused by her father. (Spoiler) She also ends up running away at the end in an intentionally self destructive way, that she knows will end in her death.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5sZBw3IiT0 - Mallory killing her parents in Natural Born Killers

I think it's easy to see the physical similarities between Mallory and Angela. Personality wise they're pretty different, but it is worth noting that the film starts with Mallory being sexually abused by her father, and then in this scene, you see her killing her father. It also ends with setting the house on fire.

I'm far from arguing these are the only sources for the character - Angela's flaming staircase scene is definitely referencing the flaming staircase in The Changeling, or Jacob climbing his staircase in Jacob's Ladder - but I feel like I haven't seen them mentioned as often, so I figured it was worth bringing up my take on it, at least.

Curious to hear of any other references people have noticed in the games?
