An in-depth breakdown of Silent Hill music by ThorHighHeels

Music that sounds like "Silent Hill"

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 03:34 PM PDT

I'm bored and stuck in the house like everyone else so I decided to toke up and make a list for this sub. I'm not too familiar with the franchise after Silent Hill 3 (The best game of the bunch, of course) but have sought out a lot of music that has the same vibe ever since I played the games. The criteria used to choose the albums were as follows:

    • Has a sense of foreboding dread - You guys are all fans of SH so this is self-explanatory.
    • Sounds evil - Not your typical Michael Myers or Alfred Hitchcock-esque inspired Hollywood drivel (nothing on them, they rock). We're talking gloomy notes, cacophonous clanks/clicks/clonks/drones/whatever
    • Euphonious - Pleasing to listen to. Not too avant-garde (nothing wrong with that, BTW)

I will list an album with a link to a good song from it. You can go from there. If you have any recommendations, please add!

    1. Demen - Nektyr (The best for me, sounds like it was recorded in Brookhaven Hospital) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXcTSlsme1s
    2. I†† - Split Tape and The Star Ruby (Yes**,** Eyedoublecross is the name. A combination of witch house and drone) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXHpvla_1uY
    3. Akira Kosemura - In the Dark Woods (Dark piano music, good stuff, should've been on one of the soundtracks) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqzXRjC7Mbg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5e9ox_4_aU and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GHOPtorQH0
    4. Julinko - Sweet Demon (Good dark folk) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEMMLfqcs28 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3tYLDxKXKA
    5. Age Eternal - Das Meer (German post-punk ethereal stuff. Fits right in with Silent Hill) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5-XZa_Pbpk and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il-a4MKdeuI
    6. Lana Del Rabies - Shadow World (Yes, you read the musician's name right. Aggressive industrial sounds) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4j39BJK_4H4 and a Music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGubS0yYH14
    7. Portishead - A lot of you probably already know Portishead but their music fits right in with Silent Hill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pw6ZOXaHm4 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBOaLjtR4mw
    8. Bardo Pond - Alvarius (Space rock personified. This song has always seemed like a perfect fit to Silent Hill) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_yi8SQ_fk0
    9. Chelsea Wolfe - Apokalypsis (Her older albums are better IMO but everything she does is good overall) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjSkktZL7zk
    10. Pink Floyd - The Wall (Is there Anybody out There should have been on a SH soundtrack) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNLhxKpfCnA
    11. Jacula - (Dark prog-rock but pretty intense at times) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r18D11GmJuw
    12. Marker - Self-titled (Dark shoegaze, has its moments) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m8nXW4n838
    13. The Sight Below - It All Falls Apart (Ambient/Dance. Pretty gloomy.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7Y956hWMnQ
    14. Nico - The Marble Index and Desertshore (Yeah, she may have been a druggie with some controversial views but she's the H.P. Lovecraft of proto-goth, plus she collaborated with the Velvet Underground) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JieBL3rXmRc

Hope all of you enjoy xo

    So I just ordered SH4 for PS2

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 04:41 PM PDT

The price was 60$ in a Very Good condition, and i'm feeling a bit like a giddy japanese school girl rn.

Sh4 was my first sh I got to play as a kid, and sadly it was only the demo. I remember having nightmares just from the bloody room intro, and when I saw those moaning ghost with the static noise, I legit couldn't keep going. I felt afraid to play the game around my mom, because I thought she'd tell me to shut it off for being too graphic for my age, so instead, my bad self would get up late at night and try to finish it, still terrified lol. When you're really young, games affect you soo much, and this game to be exact, changed my view on horror as a whole, to where I see it as an art rather then something to be scared of.

(I've beaten SH1 in the past, seen a complete playthrough for SH2 on youtube years ago, and have never even tried SH3)

I'm extremely excited to be able to experience the full game. I will definitely only play it at night with the lights out 👻

Are there any other people who had sh4 as their first sh experience? I'd like to know what that experience was like for you. (No spoilers)

looking for some good silent hill lets plays

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 06:13 PM PDT

hey all, kinda new to posting things but...

over the past week or so ive been listening to this fellow, scribe play through any silent hill hes done multiple times now (i work nights and dont need to really watch the videos) and im looking for any good lets plays you guys might suggest for other silent hill games, even the bad silent hills.

scribe does a pretty good job talking about the lore and themes imo, im not picky really but id love some outside input on lets players that enjoy this series as well. the silent hill lore's pretty broken and konami didnt really do it the justice it deserves (my opinion) but it still sunk its claws into me recently and id love some more stuff to watch, listen to in the coming weeks.

    thanks all!

Silent Hill 2 Room 209 whisper.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:40 AM PDT

On the Silent Hill Theories wiki, an unnamed user posted " So, the whisper we hear in the Room 209 is actually from a stock sound of male whispering. Just search for Stream 66 Whispering,Male on Google. The only thing that I don't know is how the stock male whisper was published in 2015 and Silent Hill 2 came out in 2001. But it definitely makes sense, because the stock whisper is in higher quality than the game's whisper. I'm thinking the stock is actually some kind of repost from an already existing whispering file. "

So I found it, & they do appear to be saying the same thing. The one in Soundcloud is just faster & higher pitched & is just a part of a longer conversation. https://soundcloud.com/peronmls/66-whisperingmale-1

Amplified it in Audacity, then slow it down to a reasonable speed. If you slow it down too much & raise the voice in pitch shirt, it's unintelligible.

Personally, I'm hearing something like" "Ira saw them, Tera saw them. Buy them something to make them leave some time behind them. They'll follow us, so I'll drive to the city. Then leave me & the tape in the car so it tips & saves" with the in-game whisper starting at "Leave some time."

Can someone tell me what the difference between the (v1.20) and (v2.01) versions of Silent Hill 2 for the PS2 are?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:47 PM PDT

The site that i'm trying to download the roms from has both of these versions listed and while the later one is probably the superior version i'd just like to know the differences. Thanks.

Silent Hill themed tumbler I made... One of a kind I'm guessing?!?

In my opinion Silent Hill HD Collection is really good. Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 are both masterpieces. My favorite character is Heather :)
