    It really is

Tomorrow may very well be the day we will have confirmation on a new Silent Hill.

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 10:52 AM PDT

If the rumours are to be believed, the most likely scenario is that we will have confirmation at the PS5 event tomorrow (Wednesday, September 16th.)

It was originally supposed to be shown at the first PS5 event in June, but was postponed due to said event being split into two separate events. The second of these is tomorrow.

Soon after the Silent Hill announcement was supposedly pushed into the second event, a new official Silent Hill Twitter account was created. Konami have claimed that this is solely for Dead By Daylight content, but this doesn't seem entirely believable. Posts on this page contain a lot of fan art with occasional DBD posts. In fact, posts on here are so few and far between as though it needs to have some form of "filler content" before posts regarding something bigger are showcased. This would be even more suggestive if there were no posts on the page at all.

An official member of Konami said that if there was to be an announcement of a future Silent Hill game that it would in fact occur on the official Twitter page or, "An event or something."

It is acceptable to assume that an announcement would occur on both the Twitter page and an event.

Now, this supposed event is most likely one of two things: The PS5 event tomorrow and the TGS (Tokyo Game Show) later this month.

Konami is in fact present at the TGS and they have quite a significant presence there, which is especially surprising since their focus on video games had been on the decline these last few years.

However, what I and many others personally believe is that if there is an announcement like Silent Hill to be made then it would most likely occur at the event tomorrow as this would have a considerably greater audience than at the TGS, so it is possible we get a teaser tomorrow and a more lengthy trailer at the TGS or even gameplay considering the development is fairly advanced if the rumours are to be believed.

Alternatively, if the rumours of a Silent Hill resurgence are true but the developer is actually not a PlayStation first party one (Japan Studios) then it can only be showcased at the TGS with a resurgence coming to multiple platforms.

To close, the leakers such as Katharsis and Dusk Golem continue to claim that Silent Hill will definitely happen. Granted, Dusk shot himself in the foot by making up lies about the PS5 because he thought people would just believe whatever he said... and quite frankly, his accredibility is at an all time low. But he is not the original leaker, Katharsis not only had a stronger backlog of successful leaks than Dusk, but she is also the first person to make the claims that Dusk would later make.

It is quite possible that Dusk Golem simply makes identical claims to other leakers, such as Katharsis, but sprinkles in his own safe assumptions which often prove to be false. He has been correct in the past but he is not someone that can be safely trusted.

If we do not see anything tomorrow or in Konami's showcase at the TGS later this month then I can safely say that we will not be getting a new Silent Hill. The PS5 event tomorrow is a huge opportunity for developers to garner a tremendous audience for their games and if Konami is a no-show then it is firmly cemented that they have nothing to show.

Of course, I expect there to be people saying, "I have absolutely no hope in seeing Silent Hill tomorrow, y'all are just dumb for getting your hopes up!" or "You shouldn't event want another Silent Hill, Konami will just ruin it like they ruined Metal Gear."

Ignore them. There is nothing wrong with having hope, there is nothing wrong with being let down. As long as you know that you can handle bad news, why not be hopeful? I, for one, will be bummed out for a minute if we don't see it tomorrow or at TGS... but it's worth the excitement I have right now over the chance of seeing it. I'll be content either way because at least we'll know not to continue being hopeful.

Enjoy the event tomorrow, regardless of Silent Hill being brought back from the dead or not :)

Am I the only person who is okay with Silent Hill being “dead”?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 08:21 PM PDT

I used to want a new game or new content in general, but as time has gone by I've changed my mind. Silent Hill had its golden age, Team Silent is long gone and they gave us four excellent games.

While the franchise definitely went out with a whimper, the legacy it holds isn't just gone because of it. I kind of hope we don't see any more Silent Hill stuff being made, and all I can really ask for is 1-4 being put on PC so that they're accessible.

It had a good run. The original, passionate development team said goodbye around 15 years ago, and I'd like to let the franchise rest where it is.

If ‘Silent Hill’ Wants to Move Forward, It Needs to Let ‘Silent Hill 2’ Go

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 10:02 AM PDT

    https://bloody-disgusting.com/video-games/3631426/silent-hill-wants-move-forward-needs-let-silent-hill-2-go/

" Ironically, all these imitators failed to take one of Silent Hill 2's most poignant lessons into consideration: the importance of standing on your own. It didn't try to be Silent Hill: Part 2, despite how beloved the first entry was. Where Silent Hill conjures up images of fire, occult magics, and how familial bonds are thicker than blood, Silent Hill 2 evokes melancholy, broken promises, and how powerful emotions will always bubble to the surface. No matter how ugly the outcome. That's why 18 years on,Silent Hill 2 is so revered, and not solely because of the damn good twist. "

very well-written and perfectly spot on article.

what are your thoughts on this?

personally, i always believed that trying to mimic silent hill 2, in some way, with every single new entry since silent hill 4 really hurt the franchise — badly. it diminishes it's potential while trying to pursue something that's already been done to perfection one time, instead of trying to find new identitites and ways of telling potentially good, resonating stories :(

why PT was brilliant: if silent hill wants to stay relevant, it needs to explore new types of horror and narrative.

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 12:46 PM PDT

Background: It's quite obvious that the series has taken an obsession toward the "troubled repressed sinner" trope, and the worst problem is that studios have ham-fistedly repeatedly tried to rectify this by combining it with the cult aspects present in SH1 and 3. However, the series is fully capable of exploring unique narratives and settings that expand past "omg they're tryna human sacrifice my family" or "oh shit i forgot i killed my little brother/my son died years ago/my dad left us".

The Room provided a type of creative, conceptual, surrealist horror that could exist outside of the town proper and (mostly) outside of these narrative tropes. Shattered Memories was clever because it attempted to subvert these expectations while still providing a similar heart-wrenching narrative, and it would have been more impressive had the game been more expansive and if the character writing was better.

Now, the short-form P.T. was innovative in terms of what a Silent Hill terror could look like because the mystery and terror was far more inspired by schizophrenia, sci-fi existentialism, and Lynchian surrealism—which was so much more ingenious than anything Homecoming-Downpour had to offer, and really touched on the creative surrealist horror present in 2-4. People shit on PT and while it's true Kojima's final game might not have been that amazing, you have to admit the storytelling and scares in this teaser were beyond innovative in the larger gaming context (in a way that mirrored SH1-3's innovative horror) and that's why it's had so many copycats to this date. The series and the world-building show that the series is capable of expansive horror and narrative that we haven't yet visited. Hell, part of what made PT so exciting was the idea that it was almost sci-fi horror in terms of the hints toward multi-dimensional existentialism ("Are you sure the only you is you?"), the nods toward aliens (having you question—is the dad just schizophrenic? Are the aliens real?)—and that's the type of innovative and kooky shit SH needs to visit if it wants to stay relevant. At least PT tried to do something narratively different with what little it was. People don't give it enough credit.

TL;dr: PT showed that Silent Hill could go sci-fi-paranormal and that demonstrates that the series could explore new types of horror and narrative in keeping with its surrealist-atmospheric-emotional bent.

    PT remake on PC

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 08:13 AM PDT

Last year I heard that PT was unofficially remade in Unreal Engine and released on PC by RadiusGorello. Later I found out that Konami took action and remake can't be downloaded. Does anybody know how to download the remake even though official itch.io website is gone?

Is the PC Port Enhanced edition version of SH2 good for your first experience of SH2?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 09:56 AM PDT

So I beat SH1 a few months ago and I want to play the best games in the series, but I don't own any of the ps2 games, and since my laptop can't emulate ps2 games I decided to get the pc port for 3 and so far for the first few minutes I've played of it, it seems to run very well. So as my first experience of SH2 would be playing the Enhanced Edition of the PC Port be good, or should I just wait until Christmas to be able to get SH2 for the PS2.
