Movies unofficially set in the Silent Hill universe. Posted: 07 Oct 2020 02:50 AM PDT Here is a list of movies that, in my head canon, are set in the Silent Hill (SH) universe. I know that some of these movies predate the SH franchise and, in fact, inspired the games, but for the sake of this exercise I am assuming that SH is the shared universe and those movies just came along before it had a name :P --- Lite Spoilers Below --- List ranked from strongest to most tenuous connection: Silent Hill (2006) - Obviously Jacob's Ladder (1990) - A huge inspiration for the SH series. The aesthetic, the story-line, the creeping, pervasive horror. Even the apparitions' appearance and movement informs the classic silent hill monster design. Hellraiser: Inferno (2000) - A movie that I think you can watch as a straight entry in the SH series. The slow, dreamy set pieces showing the death of loved ones designed to torment the protagonist. The dark, imposing corridors inhabited by faceless monsters. So on brand. As Above, So Below (2014)- An interesting movie, shot in the actual catacombs underneath Paris. The idea of descending down and down… and down into the earth while questioning your own sanity could easily be an act in a SH game. Session 9 (2001) - Set in an abandoned asylum, and featuring some good mind fuckery. There are some larger connections that are too spoilerific to get into. Lost Highway (1997) and Mulholland Dr. (2001) - Films famous for mind fuckery of the highest order. Some real classic SH elements in here. Car crashes, paranoia, lost time, mysterious characters, amazing sound design. Even the stilted, dreamy dialog that is a staple of Lynch that has been translated neatly into the SH universe. Eraserhead (1977) - For the atmosphere, industrial setting, and a horror that preys on your own insecurities In the Mouth of Madness (1995) and Event Horizon (1997) - Two gorey, frantic films from the 1990s. The body horror and spatial anomalies really fit into the SH universe, as does the idea that your reality is a punishment of your own design. Both films also show glimpses of an incomprehensible, unseen evil. Very Lovecraft, very SH. The Mist (2007) - Monsters terrorizing a classic americana location while hiding in thick fog? Oh you better believe that's a paddlin'. Annihilation (2018) - Venturing into locations that have been altered in some way by an unknown entity. The body horror of the monsters that looks entirely aberrant yet fleetingly human. Suspiria (1977) - The marriage of music and horror. --- Quick shout outs to some other titles that capture a wee bit of the SH universe. 1408 (2007) - Classic SH hotel setting. The way the environment torments the protagonist. The Others (2001)- Depending on your reading of SH, you (the player) may already be in another place. Identity (2003) - For that feeling of fighting to make sense of the events around you. The Ritual (2017) - Setting and the idea of a cult who worship something they cannot really hope to control or understand. Also great creature design. It Follows (2014) - The universe imposing an abstract punishment for sexual indiscretions The Cell (2000) - Heavy inspiration for SH4. The Babadook (2014) - A relentless, monstrous figure hunting the protagonist. I know I could have picked any number of monster movies here but I like the Babadook :P Us (2019) - The idea of multiple levels of the world we see. Hereditary (2018) and Kill List (2011) - The sheer, base dread that these films achieve is palpable. The endings of both have a real SH, cult feel. --- Any more to add? [link] [comments] | ||

Controller on Silent Hill 4 help Posted: 07 Oct 2020 03:31 PM PDT I recently bought Silent hill 4 on gog and went to the wiki, https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Silent_Hill_4:_The_Room#Input, to get controller support. I use a ps4 controller connected through bluetooth and ds4windows. Loaded the game up first with ds4 on and off and wasnt able to have my controller inputs be read. I followed the steps in the wiki as well but still couldn't get it to work. Are there other ways to get my controller to be read? I know i follwed the steps word for word so i dont see why it didnt work. [link] [comments] |
