Nothing ever feels the way Silent Hill does.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 07:08 AM PST

Let me start this long post off by saying that I have a deep, never-ending love and affection for this game. I wanted to find an outlet to write those feelings of mine somewhere for years even if they can never be properly described with words, and I just found this subreddit today. It's a cloudy, sad day here too, so the atmosphere is already perfectly set.

I first learned about the Silent Hill games back when I was a kid, probably 13, after school on a Thursday night. A shop I used to frequent in my area was selling Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and I was looking for some good horror games to play on my PS2. I was excited to try it out when I got home, and the bright red warning screen at the beginning gave me a good spook. When the game started, I was immediately sucked in by the atmosphere, and I fell in love. It didn't take me too long to finish the game and I loved it so much I decided to check for other Silent Hill games.

The next one I managed to get my hands on was Silent Hill 3. Heather easily managed to capture my heart with her personality and I felt like I could relate to her (she was a refreshing change from the usual male-protagonist games in the market at the time). The atmosphere, the music, the story, every part of that game won me over even faster than Shattered Memories did. I had so much fun playing, and I still find myself quoting Heather on a daily basis sometimes.

Silent Hill 2 was fantastic as well, and though I didn't like Silent Hill 1 as much, the PS1 aesthetic upped the creepiness ante a whole lot more and managed to make a lasting impression on me. To this day, I still look for remnants of how Silent Hill makes me feel in other horror games. No game has made this much of an impact on me. Whenever I find myself alone, walking in foggy weather, feel sad or empty, I remember this game. This might seem strange as well, but sometimes I love this feeling of loneliness or numbness, because it reminds me of better, more peaceful times, when I was just 13 playing Silent Hill. The nostalgia can be very comforting.

The whole idea of a person's trauma creating so many disfigured, unhinged, and horrific monsters is a concept that has also fascinated me about this game as well because I always had fun trying to analyze them and figuring out what they mean in relation to the protagonist, and there's so much more stuff I can say too, but it'll make this post way too long. I'm listening to the SH3 soundtrack right now and actually loving life.. and that's something I don't feel very commonly.

Thank you very much for reading, if you made it this far.

How do you feel about the outsourced silent hill games?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 01:08 PM PST

Personally I don't care for shattered memories but I'm fine with it existing. I hate the others as they try to shove themselves into the canon.

Centralia, PA: The “Real” Silent Hill

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 03:47 PM PST

Has anyone ever been to this place? I'm a huge fan of the series and am considering making the road trip if it's worth it. I've heard mixed opinions. Fortunately, I only live about 6 hours away from the "town", so I wouldn't be traveling cross country. Any information on points of interest or advice on whether I should or shouldn't take said trip would be appreciated.

Question On the Dreaded HD Collection

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 09:54 AM PST

I've wanted to play Silent Hill for a long while now but i only own an xbox one and the only way to play 2 and 3 on the xbox is through the HD collection (unfortunately). The game is on sale for about 7 bucks on the store and i was wondering if in any way it would be worth playing it just so I could experience it.

Silent Hill 2 Hard Mod on Ps2.

How many of you have beaten this challenge?

I have just recently started playing the game for the first time but am having to start from the beginning on Normal as Hard Mode just feels near impossible now I've reached the hospital.

Enemies kill you or Maria in 3/4 hits and they attack way too quickly and cannot be stunlocked or avoided. I made a mistake diving in at Hard Mode since I wanted to make my first play through a challenge...But nope! Going to be starting afresh on Normal so I can enjoy the story.

    Great game!
