Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:01 PM PDT I have been a fan of Silent Hill for awhile now.(Couple of years in fact) But I haven't played any of the games. I watch and read a lot of stuff about the games and I never really had a way to play them. I would like to play the first 3 games but I do not know how, I cannot even find the HD collection (not that I would get it.). I am just asking how can I play the games, I do not have a ps2 but I do have a ps3 so I could play the first game but the other two are still out of my reach. Can you guys help me out? What is your interpretation of the Silent Hill Series? Does it have a coherent story? Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:09 PM PDT I like to take a literalist perspective of the game's story. Based on the history, it would appear that the Native Americans who lived on this land were correct in saying there were spirits here. I'm going to assume these people lived in Silent Hill for a longer duration of time than the colonists had, so they had a deeper understanding of the land than the invaders did. When the Native Americans were removed from the land, this made the spirits angry, and they began using their powers for malicious intents, by causing the illnesses and coal fires you hear about in the story. They then bestowed some of their powers upon the Order because the Order's beliefs are most aligned with those of their old followers. Or the spirits of Silent Hill are using the Order as a tool to remove all people from Silent Hill so the spirits can again be at peace. Also, I believe the "Silent" part is an homage to the town's original name, just like a lot of states and towns in the US borrow their names from Native American words. The Hill part was merely a descriptor tacked on at the end, and more likely than not a westernization of the original name of the location. In Silent Hill 4, whenever Henry Townsend travels to Silent Hill, he always awakes in his bed after the experience was over, as if it were a dream. I believe it's a possibility that the spirits gained the power to rip the souls of people out of their bodies and transport them to Silent Hill for whatever unknown reasons they have. Then when the souls are returned back to their bodies, they wake up. I also believe there are lesser spirits (or ghosts of deceased residents) that act as demigods in the pantheon of Silent Hill, such as Eddie and Laura. That's why they have the ability to disappear and reappear at different points in the story without a trace, and be in places that no human could possibly get to. Laura is super confident for an 8 year old, leading me to suspect that she in fact dead and knows full well what she is. I think Harry Mason and Cheryl actually were physically in the town though. As Harry was able to escape and had a child with Cybil Bennett, which later was Cheryl in Silent Hill 3. I think the "god" Dahlia Gillespie was trying to birth was a manifestation of the anger of the true gods of Silent Hill, and that's why it ultimately ended up killing her. She was a pawn and she had served her purpose. Considering that Silent Hill 4 is considered the last canonical game by most fans, everything following that is a moot point. Please critique my theory in the comments. It's been awhile since I've been following the story, so perhaps I missed an important detail. [link] [comments]

What version of Silent Hill 2 should I play? Posted: 29 Mar 2020 07:02 PM PDT Hey all, total Silent Hill rookie here. The coming weeks of nationwide quarantine are going to consist of much video game playing, so I asked a couple of friends for game recommendations. One of those friends is a horror nut and all but begged me to try Silent Hill 2. From what I can tell, there are several iterations of the game. Some of which seem to receive some hate for their poor execution. It *seems* like I should either get the original version or the Restless Dreams edition for the PS2. Emulators, ports, and remasters be damned. I'd look it up more myself but I'm trying to avoid as many spoilers as possible. And I'm almost more confused after reading some of the forums about this subject. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:40 PM PDT So I'm a first timer to the series here. I just finished Silent Hill 1 on my ps1, but now I've run into a problem. Obviously I'd like to continue, but I do NOT have a PS2 to play 2 and 3. I DO, however have an Xbox one, and I see that the HD collection is available on backwards compatibility. However, I've heard nothing but horrible things about the HD versions. Are they really that bad? Will the games still be enjoyable? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Mar 2020 09:28 AM PDT for real silent hill 2 is a much better game in my opinion with the 2d movement turned on and in the "secret" settings always running. what is your guys opinion on the controls? [link] [comments]

Please insert Silent Hill 2 - CD1 on Windows Posted: 29 Mar 2020 12:05 AM PDT Hi, I recently installed Silent Hill 2 from MyAbandonware, downloading the content from each of the (virtual) disks, but ran into an issue. It's all installed now, but whenever I try to run the game, I get a notification saying 'Please insert Silent Hill 2 - CD1'. I cannot figure out how to run the game and really want to play it, so any fixes or alternatives such as a PS2 emulator, or an alternative way of installing would be greatly appreciated. I didn't use Daemon Tools or any other software, I just launched the install from the file without any external software. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
