    Origins in an Underappreciated Game

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 10:56 AM PST

well at least I think so. I'm replaying some of the Silent Hill games that I haven't played in almost 10 years and recently beat Origins again. I gotta say that it's actually a damn fine Silent Hill game. Yeah it's the PS2 version with the delayed button prompts and yeah the stamina system and breakable weapons are dumb, and yeah it gets lore wrong but other than that it's a really solid entry. I do think Cedar Grove Sanitarium is a slog to get through, especially the basement section with long green hallways full of nothing but the theater and Riverside Motel are among the stronger levels in the entire franchise I think. Plus this is the last time we get to see the entire town of Silent Hill in the Otherworld, unfortunately.

I also think the monster designs are quite effective, especially the Carrion which still kinda freaks me out due to it being an actual threat. Most of the time I just run by the monsters in the older games but this was the first time, to me anyways, the monsters were pretty threatening throughout and not only sometimes like in 3. The soundtrack is hit or miss but it does feature some of Mary Elizabeth's better songs imo.

I've been pretty adamant over the years that I'd like to see Climax UK get another shot with Silent Hill because out of the devs Konami has picked their titles have been the strongest. Granted I think we'd all like to see Silent Hill go back to a Japanese team. Overall I think Origins is a pretty neat little game, what say you?

How Masahiro Ito plans to kill Pyramid Head

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 03:00 AM PST

Masahiro Ito recently made headlines when he cryptically tweeted "R.I.P. Pyramid Head" in conjunction with a tweet from Hideo Kojima. This immediately led to speculation that it is teasing Masahiro Ito's upcoming game, and even Jeremy Blaustein responded to the tweet saying "about time."

Ito stated in 2017 that if he makes a new Silent Hill game, he either plans to not use Pyramid Head at all or kill him in the opening scene so that he doesn't have to use him (because he created PH specifically for James). Well, after doing some digging, I have discovered exactly how Masahiro Ito plans to kill Pyramid Head and it involves Valtiel.

For background, Valtiel is a manifestation of the town's religious beliefs and an angel of rebirth to the cult. Apparently, since 2013, Masahiro Ito has been planning to introduce a new iteration of Valtiel (there have already been two versions of him, one in "Cage of Cradle" and one in "Silent Hill 3"), and this version of Valtiel will ultimately kill PH.

Masahiro Ito has also shared concept art for the new Valtiel. This version apparently has crimson red wings, which I guess is appropriate for Pyramid Head's killer:

Granted this concept sketch originates from the cancelled Silent Hill game from 2013 that Ito was working on (this is from the beginning of the game, possibly where PH dies), but the more recent tweets from now and 2017 suggest that he has not abandoned his plans.

If Hideo Kojima and Masahiro Ito are indeed working on a new Silent Hill game, this could be the revival the series has needed for a while now.

Controversial opinion: the original Silent Hill is kind of bad

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 06:12 PM PST

The puzzles and general outline of where to go are too cryptic and obtuse, the nonexistent visibility is very atmospheric but is sometimes an excessive hindrance to gameplay, and the difficulty curve is far too steep with enemies severely outpacing you in both agility and strength at the very beginning of the game. I'm guessing that my criticisms won't be well-received and that I'll just be told to git gud, and the game isn't without its perks by any means whatsoever; it excels as a piece of horror and the characters and story are nice. As a game though, I think the gameplay is really frustrating. The sort of game that's way more fun to watch than it is to play.

    P.T Possible Easter Egg

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 11:13 AM PST

Firstly, I have no experience with Silent Hill, so please forgive me if this is really stupid. I just watched someone play through the famous P.T that was on PlayStation a while ago, and after hearing the number(s) being repeated, just thought about whether anyone has dialed that number. Again, I have never played Silent Hill and am not familiar with the fanbase, just thought that it could be an Easter egg.

    I don’t have a Ps2 or SH2 or SH3 and I need help to decide something?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 07:18 AM PST

Hi I'm new to the series so no spoilers please. However as you read above I want to play the original SH2 and SH3 but that would require spending about $150-$200 and while I have the money I just recently started playing SH and don't know if that is really necessary or something I really want to spend my money on. My question should I get HD collection and while I know there are problems are they mostly fixed for both games and would it be fine if I get the HD collection finish it and then If I become a huge fan get the originals later?

    Silent Hill 2 Problems

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 03:25 AM PST

I tried to run the game for my first time and it says: " A crash occured the last time that game was played. Using safe graphics options. " the game doesn't even start and it crash. My graphic card let me run games like The Witcher 3, the pc should be able to run Silent Hill 2 lol. Maybe the Direct X are too new? I don't know, help me please, I was excited to start this game. I tried to run the game with Windows XP or Windows 7 but nothing changed.
