My Silent Hill collection, are my versions of Origins/Homecoming/SM/and Downpour okay? Or should I get different versions?

Revisiting Silent Hill 3 after many years and it's all somehow scarier than I even remember. I want to just hide inside Helen's bakery. Man, the memories of first playing this masterpiece are surfacing.

Once upon a time, in the days of demo discs (god I miss those), my brothers and I got one from Playstation Magazine which featured part of the Hilltop Center in SH3. I will be completely honest, this was my very first exposure to the series. It's maybe because of this that 3 will always be my favorite in the series and one of my favorite games of all time. Anyways, I was completely enthralled by it's surreal imagery and cool protagonist.

My parents at the time did not allow us to play M-rated games, but the local Blockbuster never cared about our ages. As we didn't have much money, we had to rent it whenever we could. After our parents would go to bed, my brother and I would sneak down to our half-finished basement and play it on our CRT. We were absolutely terrified and loved every minute of it. We would talk about the story on the school bus all the time, drawing up our own conclusions, eagerly awaiting the next time the lights would go out and we could enter Silent Hill again.

Nothing will ever recapture that experience, and it saddens me a bit that I can never really go back. I replayed it as part of the HD collection when that came out, but that butchered so much of it. Recently, however, I decided to give it a thorough revisiting on PC. After throwing on the widescreen mod, bumping up the resolution, and using surround sound headphones, good loooord! It has aged remarkably well and is scaring the absolute shit out of me. There are so many details that I have forgotten and I never fully appreciated the industrial, brutal noise of a soundtrack until I used a proper sound set-up. This game is resonating with me even after all these years, which makes me happy.

Anyways, I just thought I'd share a few ramblings from a fan. As part of being older, my siblings and I all live in separate states with busy jobs now, but we are planning on revisiting it again together in Fall in that same, but now-finished basement. What are some of your memories of Silent Hill?

    Scariest silent hill ?

I've been having a lot of self conflict when deciding which game from 1-4 is the scariest and currently I'm thinking it's either 1 or 3 I just wanted to see what the communities input on the subject is

Highly suggest everyone read through the Book of Lost Memories for developer commentary on symbolism, creatures, story, word-making, and characters from SH1-3. This sure was a treat. What are your thoughts?

    Monster symbolism?

Been playing through old RE games, probably gonna play some of the silent hill titles pre-downpour next. I'm semi-familiar with the series, mostly the fact that monsters are meant to represent something from the pc's psyche. I was just curious if this is explicitly stated in one of the games or by a developer, or if it's more of a commonly accepted fan theory?

What's the deal with Silent Hill 3 Redux?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 04:05 AM PDT

I wish I could provide more information but this is all I have:

    https://palm-studios.github.io/sh3-redux/

    https://github.com/Palm-Studios/sh3redux

Does anyone know the guy? Is this still a working project? I'm so confused. I found it in a google search for "Silent Hill 3 mods" and all I have is questions.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love this game, but this hitbox is sincerely absurd.
