    Decided recently to play the silent hills games, want from 2 on the ps2, did not mind the game, decide to play number 3 but on the HD collection, pop the game in, sat on the couch, picked 3, game starts and the controls just fuck up. Anyone else had this problem xD and is there a way to fix it?

    Story wise, is SH1 better than 2?

    So today I finished SH2 for the first time, and I have a bit of a mixed opinion with the story.

    First of all, the story of 2 has an interesting theme about depression which I kinda didn't understand fully? Give me some time, I'll get the gist of it. I like psychological stuff.

    With that said compared to the first game's story where it explores the town and its weird cult (it kinda makes sense with the title's name), SH2 tells a story about people's issues rather than the town. I had a feeling that like Silent Hill isn't real and it was all just James's imagination. In a way that he went "insane" and started seeing stuff.

    Endings are differently handled. In 1 you either have a good or bad ending (and the "+" endings). Plain and simple, good or bad. In 2 endings are neutral, which can be interpreted as a good or bad ending depending on the way you look at them, which is great. I love things like that. But what's bullshit is that in order to get different endings you have to pay attention to the most minimalistic nonsensical things. Don't examine this item, don't get too much damage, don't do this, don't do that, etc. It's really dumb. Like, why wasn't it like in 1? This way, the story felt a bit... linear? (Not quite the word I'm looking for.)

    I'm not hating on either games' story. One felt more horror, the other felt more haunting. Both are great. (And I was mildly disappointed that we didn't get to explore more of Silent Hill in 2.)

    So, what's your opinion? Which story was more interesting and why?

    (Note: Please don't spoil the rest of the series for me. I just finished 1 and 2 for the first time. I plan on playing 3 soon.)

    I physically own 2, 3, and 4, but 1 is ridiculously expensive second-hand now. What's the best way to play Silent Hill 1?

    Title. I haven't ever played silent hill before but am gearing up to do so - but I also dont want to spend 60 bucks on a game that I'm not sure I'll like. What's the best way to play the first game?
